I'm 14 years old and I have a 6 year old basset hound. He recently started peeing on the floors at night and my dad is threatning to get rid of him. I let him out right before i go upstairs at night. Usually around 11 o'clock, and he doesnt bark to go out during the night. I really dont want to lose my dog and my dad wont take him to the vet. And I'm running out of things to do. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

If he's been good before and recently started peeing indoors, then he NEEDS to be checked by the vet for a bladder infection or other medical problem. Bladder infections are very painful, and make the dog pee more often, so this really needs to be attended to.

Once that has been taken care of he will probably need to be housebroken all over again, like when he was a puppy, but he will learn it faster this time.

I'm sorry, but if your dad won't take the dog to the vet, then it's better to find him a home where he'll be properly looked after. You don't want him to suffer, do you?

First of all he is an infant. Infant pee when they need to. And you obviously have not yet taught him where is the proper place. You can do several things. 1) have him checked at the vets to be sure he does not have any bladder problems 2) clean, clean, clean everywhere he has ever peeds. Get up that smell from floor and furniture. Use an enzyme cleaner which will cut the smell. You can use a black light and find all the spots easily. 3) Make up a schedule. He needs to go outside THE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING and the very LAST THING AT NIGHT. 4) leash him to your belt loop or wrist when in the house so you can see him constantly. When you see him circling or sniffing rush him outside. 5) take him outside about every hour to the same place in the yard and when he does pee or poop praise him like he is royalty and has done a wonderful thing. 6) DO NOT YELL AT HIM, DO NOT SMACK HIM. be calm and quiet. You don't every have to say a word. 7) remove his water after 8pm so he can't tank up at night. But don't forget to put it back down 8) You can put him into a crate to sleep or when you need to have some free time. I always take my puppies to bed with me so I know if they move during the night and can rush them outside. It should take about 2 weeks of good constant training on your part and he will learn the behavior. But worth the time. But you got the guy now you need to invest the time to properly train him. He does not speed English so you have to teach him proper behavior and you need to learn dog.

A dog will not go to the bathroom where he sleeps. Make a cage, or some other area where he has very little room except to turn around. In addition to the last thing at night, the first thing in the morning let him out. A stop at the Vet wouldn't hurt things.

Make sure you don't make a big fit over your dog peeing on the floor. I mean, a simple "No!" is okay, but don't scream and smack your dog, or else he'll start going to the bathroom in places where it is less likely to be noticed to keep you from yelling at him. Make sure you get your dog a slightly small cage to sleep in because dogs do not like to go potty where they sleep. Second, make sure your dog does not drink alot of water before he goes to bed. Third, take him on lots of walks and make sure you congratulate him and pet him and give him treats when he does go outside. And then, if your dog still goes at night, locate the area where he mostly goes to the bathroom get a kitty litter box and some newspaper (I know it sounds crazy, but listen), stuff the box with newspaper, and put it in the "go area". Make sure you make a big deal of it when the dog goes in the box. give him treats and hug him, and show him the box. That worked for my chihuahuas.

Make sure you take him on walks. Don't let him off the leash untill he does his bussniess. That can be his reward for going outside. When he does pee inside, tell him "No." and take him outside on the leash for a while to see if he's still gotta pee. If that doesn't work, try this. Look and see if there is a certian piece of funiture he likes to pee on or near, like a pillow. The take him outside with that piece of furniture and let him sniff it. Hopefully he'll see the pillow and pee outside. You may have to practise to get him to figure it out.

i think that u should shut ur dog in a room with tile or wood floors at night and then in the morning get him out and clean up the pee(sorry but if u wanna keep the dog ull be willing to do it) then put the dog outside and if he pees on the floor then just hit him and he'll get the messege about not peeing on the floor thats wut we do to our dogs

sometimes dogs have problems like this if they have bladder or kidney infections

you would have to have a vet look at the dog to find out for sure....

your dog also needs shots! and yearly vet visits.

your father is being irresponsible.. tell him i said so!

Try keeping the door a bit open...or putting newspapers in one area.... also bring him on more walks too.... and if nothing works u might have to start buying dogie diapers....and the reason might be that he can't control his when he does his business....
I hope this helps

If your dog does that again, you're supposed to scold it. Tell it in a mean aggresive way, "No". It will learn from time to time, and your dog shouldnt be doing it again. Hope that helps
