An Excel worksheet consists of 65,536 rows, 256 columns so you have one great big spreadsheet. Obviously you couldn't print out on one sheet if you were to use all rows and even when you have used more than 20 rows you can't see the top row where presumably the column headings are when you're inputting at the bottom. So, I'm assuming this is why you are asking the question, because you can't see everything, go up to Windows, Freeze Panes, but before you do that, make sure your active cell is, say b1, so that your column headings are above and row headings to the side. That way, as you move down you will always see the headings so know to input data into the right column and also if you scroll right you will always see row labels. Hope this helps.
Alternatively if you need to work in a very large spreadsheet, you can use a split screen, again up to Windows, Split but this takes some getting used to.

It is important to state the Excel version, as well as the official source of the information. I got my information directly from the Microsoft site. Fortunately, it detailed the maximum rows information according to the various versions of Excel.

-----------------

1) Versions of Excel earlier than Excel 97 have a limit of 16,384 rows.

2) In Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows, Microsoft Excel 2000, Microsoft Excel 2002, and Microsoft Office Excel 2003: these versions of Microsoft Excel are limited to 65,536 rows.

3) Versions of Excel later than Excel 2003 have a limit of 1,048,576 rows.

Looks like it's dependent on the amount of memory you have: http://www.decisionmodels.com/memlimitsc.htm

To give a closer answer: at least tens of thousands.

If you want an exact answer for your machine, put some weight on the Page Down key and check back in a few minutes.

I have some right good arguments with my Office Excel.
Forever swearing at it. Once in the morning,..couple of times in the afternoon seems to do the trick.
Not sure whether it's allowed though,...amuses me.
