I know that this question has probably been asked before, but I'm curious as to what people really think.

So answer me this please: What are your views on abortion, and do you think it should be illegal?

I am intensely pro-choice. It should remain legal.

Having had an abortion, I've learned that few understand it. People assume there are negative emotional effects, and for some women, there are. However, it depends on how long the woman took to decide to have the abortion, how much support she has around her, and what procedure she has done.

Mine was two days after I find out I was four weeks pregnant. I had a great deal of support from my then boyfriend and my friends. I knew if I got pregnant at that point in life that I would have an abortion, so there was no deliberation on it. I was so early that I did a medical abortion (RU-486, no surgery). The embryo was so small that it wasn't even visible on the ultrasound. In fact, she did the pregnancy test on me twice to make sure I was pregnant.

It was one of the best decisions I've ever made for myself in my life. There was no way I could have brought a child into the world. I was living in a tiny apartment with a man I realized I wasn't going to be marrying. I was a grad school student. I was 400 miles away from home. I was living on student loans. I had a mountain of debt. And I was extremely immature. Had I had a child, that child's life would have been miserable.

Very few people hear about experiences like mine. So, I try to share it as much as I can. I've been called a murderer, and it no longer bothers me because I know better.

I think abortion should be a woman's choice.

Women choose to abort for different reasons, not just because they don't want a baby. For most women this is an incredibly difficult decision. It is usually the very last option.

It all comes down to the fact that the morals of some groups should not be allowed to dictate the laws of a land.

I should not have to be an incubator if I do not want to. And no one should decide if a woman has to have a baby but that woman.

It would be better if birth control were free and easily available. That would lessen the need for abortion. But that is against peoples morals as well.

We cannot win, but freedom means freedom of choice. It also means the right to choose based on individual moral ideas, not on the dictates of a majority religion.

Back in the day, and still now to some extend, I believed they should be banned, and that any one who can do that to an unborn child is a bi tch. Then two of my best friends had abortions, and although my views remain the same, I'm not so against them any more. I can't stand women that have multiple abortions, like it's a form of birth control, but I also respect that everyone has there own reasons and there own Free will. In an ideal world nobody would need one, but it is not an ideal world. I just thank God that I have not been in this position, and pray that I never will, cos I don't know how I'd live with myself after having that done.

I dont think it should be illegal, if it where illegal do you think that would stop people from doing it? NO drugs are illegal, drinking and driving is illegal and people still do that. Youd have young teenage girls or cracked out whores trying to abort it themselves by shoving clothes hangers up inside of them, or youd have little babys left to die in trash cans on in a ditch somewhere. Yea there is adoption, but seriously how many people do you think will choose that option, if your a teenager an you dont want your parents to know you think they are gonna want to cary it full term? no they will find some way to kill it or hide it untill its born an dispose of it or leave it somewhere. Of course this isnt in everycase some would keep them and raise them and be soo happy they chose to keep it, but thats not all cases. Think about the mother that has 8 kids addicted to crack gets the crap beat out of her and her children everyday, the kids are exposed to drugs and sex all day an get left at home alone, they will now grow up and follow in the footsteps of their mother producing more abused children, but if mother would have been able to have an abortion, that poor baby wouldnt have been brought into this world sad, abused and beat. Sad but True

Hmm.. I'm against abortion, but I'm also pro-choice because I don't think someone has the right to say what a woman can do with her body, especially a male...

Making it illegal will not curb abortion because I'm sure that people will find new methods of taking care of it...

If I was a woman, I would NOT want to have a child of some rapist... I just wouldn't...

Also, I notice that there are people who are against abortion but support capital punishment. Hypocritical if you ask me.

People are either for it or against it, abortion. We have all seen abortion clinics being picketed by right wing Christians and other hardcore lifers. Others have gone as far as bombing abortion clinics and even murdering doctors who carry out the procedures. If they truly follow religion, wouldn't they let God take care of these so-called "sinners"? Is an eye-for-an-eye in the Bible, I don't remember seeing it.
Why do these people feel like they have to make decisions for everybody else? If they really wanted to do "good," wouldn't they just pray for the departing souls of these "unplanned mistakes"?
And we have all heard the gruesome stories about how the baby is vacuumed out limb-by-limb, some with their little heart still beating. Let's think about it; if the baby is born to a mother who does not want it or can't afford to give it the nourishment it needs, why make society pay for this child?

I dont think it should be illegal BUT i do not think there is any reason for it, except in rape OR the health of the mother ( i have been raped , carried and had the baby) I think it is a womans decision. But there is also adoption, abortion is such a cruel practice, hurt a unborn innocent for your own selfish reasons, BUT you didnt think about that when you were having unprotected sex. If more woman took responsibility for their bodies, and kids stopped having sex, maybe abortion might be done for ONLY the reasons i mentioned to begin with.

I think abortion should continue to be legal, but should be used for extreme cases, not because someone was too cheap to buy a condom.

As for the concept that abortion is murder, hey, War is murder, but people support that, eating meat, eggs is murder. Even eating the fruit off of a plant or tree is killing that living, growing entity.

Having a child that's brought in this world that grows up by a poorly educated parent, one that cares more about themselves and their party days and their bad habits is FAR WORSE than terminating a pregnancy prior to that child's consciousness.

i think abortion should be leagal because women should have the rights to make there own decition and there rights. some women out there cant affored having a baby with them so its better to abort a baby rather than letting the baby grow up in a bad condition. but some ppl might say "its bad to allow abortion because ppl will start feeling free and stop using condoms and act like abortion is a birth controle pill" but fyi, abortion can kill you and it hurts alot AND it cost alot of money so people should think first. its better to abort the babies rather than us having an over populated place full of hungry little mouths to feed wich seems impossible to do.

There are two things in the world abhorrent to me: abortion and the limiting of a woman's right to choose.

My personal preference would be that every woman choose not to have an abortion but, more importantly, that she have the right to choose to have one.

I am 49% anti-abortion 51% pro-choice.
