Pick up a pencil and start doodling. Anything! If you go anywhere take your camera and carry it in your hand. Start looking for things to take pictures of. The eye starts the process (at least it does for me) and the hands continue it along until the heart and mind kick in and away you go.

I know about this as well. Sometimes one can have a lot of old magazines , flip through them and remember art can tell a story or make a statement through taking various images and organizing them through collage. When I was in College my professor told us to use magazines, what I would do is rip out photos that were appealing to me. Once we did that we would use as many as we felt were useful to create a complete composition. U can take a piece of paper and cut and paste pieces of the photos on to the plain paper Use the images that u like and leave the pieces u don't like out. From there if u paint draw the image u made from the collage onto your canvas and paint. i know college seems childish, but one can come up with powerful images through simply compiling dif/ images into one.
Also remember that sometimes the best ideas come when your not even concern with coming up with an idea. Being pissed doesn't really help the problem. If it's not there then it just not meant to be there. Give it time or surround yourself with your fellow artist, sometimes that ignites the juices.

I usually take a few steps back from painting for a few weeks and then step back into it again...I usually have a small notepad with me in my purse if i have a few ideas rolling inside my head, i jot or draw it down on a piece of paper. Sometimes i take my digital camera and take a few pictures of a tree or landscape, and then i paint it out. Sometime i can be looking at something and idea pops into my head. Or you can try to just gather things around the house to either making a collage of various object into a painting or various object to paint.

Painting can be so exciting but sometimes you feel in a slump , yor mind goes blank?
Find something that interest you. Books are helpful!! Take a trail walk and see what comes to mind. ALL KIND OF THINGS ARE RIGHT IN FRONT OF US! Just enjoy the day!
Whatever comes our way! A blank canvas , keep on hand,
ENJOY!!

Go take a walk around your favorite places. You might find something that you never realized before although you passed it several times, or
Read some design magazines to look new ideas, or
Go back to basic design ideas (usually something simple that you thought before, today will be the most interesting idea to be developed)...

Paint with out an intended result. Paint something that you are willing to throw away or paint over (paint your bathroom). Use this as a spring board. If that doesn't bring about solid ideas, there's always self portraits.

Draw from nature, and for least an hour every day. It's like meditation for artists.

listen to different types of music that make you feel different ways, think of current issues, your past, or just sit outside because something usually comes to your mind
