my papillon puppy is about 6th months old now. after a few weeks she would sleep fine downstairs in her superyard (u kno the ones for toddlers) and its cozy and she'd only whine for a second or two once we leave. but on saturday we got her spayed. the first night she had to wear the collar so she wouldnt mess with her stitiches but she slept bc she was tired out, the same with the second night but she kept whining so loud my mom had to go down there bc it was late and the neighbors could hear. last night we had her wear a shirt (she doesnt mind those) that cover her stitches unallowing her to pull them out. and usually that wouldnt bother her but tonight it did my mom had to stay downstairs but she stayed in her superyard and would wake up and cry whenever my mom tried to leave. i dont understand why she whines now but she didnt before. how can i get my puppy to stop whining?

let me add some things not to say:

let her sleep in your bed. (i am a violent sleeper i will kick her and she is small my bed is high up she will get hurt if she jumps off)

tire her out (we do every night)

the vet wont help bc its not worth the trip (its pretty far)

cnt think of any more. k thanks

have you tried lullabyes(lol) no as well as playing with her to tire her out feed her just before bed i often find after a feed that makes them sleep but it will resolve itself in the end the key word is perseverance

Just put it, (without its t shirt on !) in its bed, in your kitchen, or wherever you leave it downstairs, say BED (firmlly once), you walk immediately out, go to bed and leave it, do not go back in til morning. Leave a dish of cold clean water. If you do this it will work within a week. Edited info : a t shirt wont stop it getting at stitches if it want to, youve got to be firm and in return the dog will be loyal and obediant, its not the boss you are, im not being cruel, this is in the best interest of the dog and you.

Surgery is such a tramatic thing, and if it was her first time away from home and they yanked her uterus out, she may have some issues.
You also have to take into consideration that her hormones are trying to level out.

You did the right thing getting her spayed, however it is a major procedure.

We use background noise for our dogs. We have a fan that runs to mask some of the sound of us if we go to the bathroom or whatever. We have an eight month old, and he wakes up and whines if he hears us. He is in his crate in another room with our older dog.

Things for your puppy may not go back to normal till she gets those stitches out. They are uncomfortable, making what was normal not quite right. She is whining because she feels unsafe, and you have to find a way to make her feel safe.

Let her sleep with a shirt that you wore that day, so she has the scent of you and use background noise. Don't rely on soft music. Inevitably something happens in the music that wakes them up. Fans are great... consistant noise, just face it away from her so she does not get a chill.

Put the fan in and have your mom just sit on the sofa. Wait the pup out... then as quietly as possible, leave. She will probly wake up and whimper... don't go back to the sofa. Just sit further away or stand and ignore her. don't even talk to her. Just wait her out. When she realizes that you are just going to stand there, she will go back to sleep. Continue to inch your way out of the room. Allow her to feel safe, and keep in mind patience, consistancy and all that.

Another option is to move the pen into your or your mom's room, but this is a commitment, because she is not going to want to be anywhere else.

Best of luck, and i hope this helps.

Maybe try to stay out there a bit longer with him and rub his stomach for a couple minutes to relax him before he starts to go to sleep. Or maybe try putting another cushin in his bed maybe it is uncomfortable for him.
Good Luck!

distract her. Put an alarmclock next to her (off), the ticking sound always works. whether you put it there after she falls asleep of before, is your choice.
