My license was suspended for 1 year after I was involved in an accident without any insurance. My car was totaled in that accident. Since I had no license after that, I figured I'd hold off on getting another one until I had my license back. Now that I am eligable to get it reinstated, I discovered on the California DMV website that in order to do so I will need to pay the $125 fee as well as show proof of insurance. Is it even possible to get auto insurance without an automobile????

yes you can obtain insurance w/o a car. Due to the accident w/o insurance you need to file an SR22 with the state and there are whats known as "non-owners policies". These are policies for people like you who need insurance to keep their license but do not own a car. Any insurance agent in your area can set you up with a policy like this.

Auto insurance is actually drivers insurance that also protects your car. So find a insurance pool that will let you in. You will need proof of insurance to retest for your licence. Insurance companys are really funny about people who show insurance problems in the past. I would reccomennd the same insurance company who also does your homeowners or renters insurance bundle the policys some times lowers rates. Take a defensive drivers course on line or in person buy a car with an alarm system and good crash test ratings. Welcome Back To Driving.

You can get car insurance without a license but you are going to have to go into a high risk pool. Regular insurance companies will not touch you. The state can give you a list of high risk insurers. Bring your wallet.
