I've tried the mirosoft download that tells you, but it always says its by an unknown publisher. Should I still use that downlod or is there a better way. I want to get Windows Vista Premium.

Have you tried Microsoft's Upgrade Advisor? It will tell you if your system (not just the CPU) can run VIsta or not. It is the best tool I know of to tell you. (You didn't specify what download you tried.)

Check the Microsoft compatibility label. If your PC is up to it, it will say Designed for Windows XP and Windows Vista Capable underneath it.

eMail Microsoft direct and ask for the minimum specs. But you will need to buy the disk. As always, uncle Bill needs to buy a hot pie for the kids tonight.

look for stickers on your computer saying "designed for windows xp

windows vista capable

or on laptops near the mousepad look for the same sticker
