You ARE, of course, being facetious -- aren't you? I hope.

One of the oldest and common legends found all around the world is the story of humans stealing fire from the Gods.
Generally speaking societies talked about obtaining technologies like fire and agriculture from the Gods.
So what is it to be God and does it matter.
Camus argues that in the 19th century God became less important than science. Which meant humans took on the role of God, including highly negative aspects such as Nazism and eugenics.
If God made us in his image does God look like us...or is it our capacity for moral judgement. If we have technology that gives us God like powers perhaps we can look to God for guidance.
Though smiting and destroying enemies, a la old testament, is not my idea of being moral.
So deal with it, we have had the ability to wipe life off the face of the planet for 50 years, lets evolve and be more moral in the face of our increased powers.

The problem with technology is the ends to which we put it. So, the question isn't really about the technology, it's about the willingness of man to "play God".
Man has clearly exhibited, time and again, that he has no problem playing God. The bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshimi were a succint example of this willingness, but there are millions upon millions of other examples. Anytime a bullet pierces a human body, you get another example.

I think the better idea is learn how to get our act together as a whole and as a species before granting our selves such power.
Why the thumbs down? It makes sense. Why the heck you giving a guy named beavis christ thumbs up when he says back to the dark ages?
As for those who say we cannot play God have not been reading up on advances in bio-engineering and the things we can do with DNA. Not to mention nanotechnology and advances into how the brain works to the point scientists are debating if altering memories would be a good idea. Being able to alter life's building blocks and thought processes of others is as close to playing God as we can get. Imagine the way the human race is now with such technology fully developed, Lord it would be a mess.

I don't really like the phrase "play God" - as if we could! It would be better if we use what we have responsibly - so perhaps not have a car unless it's necessary, and definitely don't have a big car or a 4x4 if you're just going to drive it on the roads, by yourself! But hey, if you feel that way, you could always join the Amish :)

Sounds like fun. The only problem is there is no way to unlearn the knowledge that we have learned, and even if we were going to get rid of it all, there are some things that I think everyone would want to keep around.

why don't we just get rid of curling irons and those really expensive hair straighteners and all that technology they use to make really good cosmetics.
Lets just run through the fields and pick wild flowers and rub them against our cheeks.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I cant imagine my world with out some of that technology that helped create power panties and my ipod.
