. . .have more than their fair share of traffic accidents? Every day on the news a bus gets hit, someone gets run over, etc etc etc. Why do you think that is?
I do think the drivers are more civilized than those in other parts of China. . . maybe I am wrong!

Maybe it is just reported more often - as I found the driving in Hong Kong safer than the rest of China. For example I read the annual death toll from motor vehicle accidents in Shanghai is 6500 per year ( it would be interesting to know the figures for Hong Kong).

I agree that it is just not that much news reporting because Hong Kong is such a small place unless there is major events like the opening of Lok Ma Chau line and the 10th anniversary of SAR. I think Hong Kong has less accidents compare to New York and accidents happen everyday

It's just the newspaper. Hong Kong's newspaper did not have enough local news to report, so they like to put this kind of accidents as NEWS, and make each car accident as a big deal.

In most people, car accident is not a news unless it is a huge accident.

From what I know, the accident rate should be better than USA (NJ/NY area) since they cost of car insurance are much cheaper.

I dont think its the driver are un-civilized its due to the large amount of traffic they have laws of average say with that much traffic in such a condensed area there will be alot of accidents. Its the smae with every big city in any country.

I think China is more worse. But seldom to hear the news, such as run over and even murderer in small town. I think Hong kong is better, at least regarding information disclosure.

Perhaps, because there are so many people in such a small area it is inevitable that accidents happen every day. I am sure not so many would happen in the Saraha, because there are so few people
