I have heard this rumour that they are planning to put the minimum driving age up to 18 but i would think that people already holding provisional or full driving licences will be exempted. He can legally hold a provisional licence for scooters, mopeds and motor bikes as far as i know at 16 anyway.

Good Luck.

The "driving age" as such in the UK is not going up, but the time between getting your provisional licence and being able to take your test may be increasing to one year.

Essentially, you can learn to drive from 17, but may soon have to have one year of supervised driving practice before you can take the practical test - which will mean new drivers will be at least 18 when taking their tests.

At present it is only one of many thoughts and ideas for the future. These ideas are put forward as ways of helping reduce the high accident rate in young drivers. I don't think your son will have any problems as any new law will take some time to be brought it.

Apparently the driving age will be raised to 18. But for some of you who are moaning about teenagers being on the roads so young, you'll find its normally the adults who are worse. Their driving is so atrocious that I wonder if they got their licence out of a cornflakes packet.

i think of it should additionally be as that's in Europe... you skipped over the reality that we are going to deliver our 18 twelve months previous's to conflict yet no longer enable them to drink. I additionally experience the using age must be relative to the youngster. As in if a 14 twelve months previous that lives and works on a farm or rural section is attentive to how topersistent a truck... enable empersistent, specific privileges for people who want a license at youthful an prolonged time. yet make it extra complicated to get the licenses interior the 1st place. i think of initially in the event that they replaced our rules it may take some years for persons to get use to it, and for the toddlers of that age on the time of the change they could be at a better possibility of probability by way of fact they does not be arranged for the accountability. yet interior the long-term its the main suitable element to do. If as a rustic, we enable those toddlers to alter into squaddies.... i've got confidence that as a rustic, we ought to consistently pour them a drink until now they pass. To think of a toddler can die interior the line of "accountability" and yet by no capacity have had the privilege to be seen an entire person by utilising sharing a drink with acquaintances and kin (legally) is an abomination. I additionally think of that there must be no eating age. i've got confidence that the accountability of those issues ought to study with out the choose for a criminal age shrink. i be attentive to 3 10 twelve months olds that are extra responsible than sixteen twelve months olds. So if shall we educate using at a youthful age; as quickly as the youngster has substitute right into a reckless teen, they already have the essential using skills below their belt and don't experience the could desire to aim the barriers of the vehicle and their loss of skills. Uping th using age only makes older unexperienced drivers. very own responsibiity has been taken faraway from us (by utilising the government and regulation) which makes us much less likley to act responsibly. it rather is human nature. i began out learning using skills very youthful (approximately 8-10) below supervision of my father. I exceeded my attempt at 15 years previous, in a commonplace, the 1st time, with flying hues. and that i've got by no capacity brought about or been in (by way of shielding using) and twist of destiny. I even have been a criminal motive force for 18 years. If i will do it, so can others.

Hi yeah I heard it was going up in June but obviously that never happened. Order his provisional 3 months before his bday then I'm pretty sure they can't stop you learning if he's got it.

Why Americans think they can have licence after 16. In should be like in Europe, 18!! Dont understand me wrong i am not saying "Europe is better" but it seems so wrong, giving driving licence to a teenager.
But anyway, you know it already: Europe rulez!! :D heheh

They're still bickering about this idea (again) and no decision has been reached. If it IS decided upon, it will take a long, long time to reach fruition - I doubt your son will be affected.
