We play football on a school playground adjoining our society compound (common wall). Recently a man from our building called the police on us cos we were playing football.
Is this legal. Can he do this? The police let us off with a warning.

The school kids play there everyday. He does nothing abt them. Can he complain to the police abt us playing on the ground or in the society premises?

The funny thing is that till abt 5 yrs ago he used to play with us as well.

Playing football on a school playground is no offence itself unless such playing causes some damage to the property of any person that will be covered under the definition of mischief as provided under section 425 of the Indian penal code. Whoever with intent to cause, or knowing that he
is likely to cause, wrongful loss or damage to the public or to any
person, causes the destruction of any property, or any such change in
any property or in the situation thereof as destroys or diminishes its
value or utility, or affects it injuriously, commits "mischief".
Now here there has to some intention to cause wrongful loss or damage to any property or injuries but since there is no such intention to do so while you people play football the question of your such act cannot be covered under this definition & hence you cannot be charged under these section (425,426,427 of IPC) provisions for this act of playing football. The only thing with which you should be careful is that while you play take due precautions not to bring any damage to any property or injuries to any one around.

If he belongs to the society, yes what you are doing is a wrong thing.
In the first place, you would probaly be disturbing him in some way or another . Another possibilty is, he must be feeling bored or he had just got into a quarrel recently and thats why you disturb him and he called the police....So my advice is Next time do not play at the coumpound again!

If you are i school compund and he is in society he cant do this. If you are causing property damage ,nuisance he can do it.

What I find interesting is how todays youth would rather fight common man for their perceived rights rather than fight the govt. for getting proper playgrounds.

Had an experience with kids playing cricket in our society, repeated requests wouldnt stop them and they played it deliberately to show their strength implying the peace loving residents couldnt do **** bout them.

What was surprising was not a single one of these kids had the guts to go out and fight with the Municipality for a decent playground and garden for their entertainment. Shows the cowardice of such kids and their parents.

if you have the sanction of the school authorities u can. any one can make complaints to anymatter. entertaining them by an office of law is different. it goes on merits. so ensure that you have the owner's permission to use the ground (here it is the school authorities)
