Same here ... I am sailing in the same boat as Catlover, I did not have a problem having anesthesia for my operation and I did donate blood.

Can't tell you about blood donation, but will address the anesthesia issue.
Anyone with uncontrolled thyroid disease of ANY type is at higher risk for anesthesia. Patients with controlled thyroid function do just fine.
There is no one that we CAN'T anesthetize. It's just riskier in some patients, and we do everything we can pre-op to decrease the risks.

I don't know about donating blood, I would call your local blood bank. I have hashimoto's Thyroid disease (hypo) and have been under anesthesia and did fine. However, always consult with your doctor regarding these types of matters. Make sure they have all the facts.

http://www.redcross.org/services/biomed/0,1082,0_557_,00.html lists the prohibitions against blood donation. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is not one of the prohibited conditions listed by the Red Cross.
A quick Yahoo! search for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis anaesthesia show many links that lead to articles that indicate both in favor and against using general anaesthetics with patients who have Hashimoto's, depending on how severe.

Women with Hashimoto`s disease can be anesthetised. They can donate blood. But such women are menorrhagic and anemic. Blood bank refuses donation for that reason
