I am just curious to know why people get Tattoo's
Is it away of expressing their inner self eg: Tiger-Strength ?
Or could it be
They are not happy with themselves and want to cover themselves so people focus more on the Tattoo then the person ?
I am very interested in what the responses will be

I have a couple tattoos. They both have deep personal meaning, and serve to remind me to stay centered and to persist in life, no matter how hard it is. After what I've been through I need a couple reminders that life is worth it.

I have 2 tattoos. a large tribal butterfly on the top of my back between my shoulders. I got this tattoo when i was 21 years old. I had the design drawn up for me and i looked at it everyday for a year before i actually got it tattooed on me. Wanted to make sure I wasnt going to get sick of it. Its been 2 years since I got that tattoo and I still love it as much as i did the first day.
I got my second tattoo a year later its a quarter moon with stars. its in a circle pattern with moon on one side and stars on the other. This one is located on my ankle. very close to the bottom of my foot. I did not have this design picked out as long as the other but I still studied it for a while to make sure it was something that had meaning to me and that I would love forever. Thats been a year ago now and I still love the tattoo.
For me, the reason I get tattoos is because I think they are a way of showing uniqueness and personality. I have already gotten another design picked out for my next tattoo. Its to show my faith. I am getting a cross with vine wrapped around it. Its in black/white with all different shades of gray. I will be getting this one on the top of my foot. I always try to get my tattoos in place that are not hard to cover up but are also not hard to show off. I am very proud of my tattoos, they are a part of me but I do not want to ruin a job interview or something like that because I am too stubborn to realize that not everyone loves tattoos like I do.

If only the nature of my work will allow me to have at least one permanent tattoo's..why not! But since it was strictly prohibited in our job, i have to follow the rules if i wanted to stay long. That's why all i can do is to get a henna tattoo, although i know that it will not last long. I truly believe that most people wanted to have a tattoo because it's their way of expressing their feelings, creativeness or expressing their beliefs. Some people want to have a tattoo because they wanna be in the fashion or whatsoever they wanna call it.
Personally, i like tattoo's because i want people to see my inner-self.

I have tattoos because I'm an artist and i like the fact that know I'm a walking talking piece of someones art work and its not because I'm don't like myself and if you think that people get tattooed for that reason you should get that stick out of your A S S and go out and talk with some of the people with tattoos because you cant judge a book by its cover or people by their tattoos

Millie, I was in the u.s. navy many years ago and t was the thing in the navy to have tattoos, when I came out of the service I became a hairstylist. and in those days people looked down on you if you had tats For many years I wore only long slave shirts, today I don't,as they are excepted but a time will come when the fad is over, and people will wear long sleeves again, to avoid comments. good question

I have a butterfly tattoo on my left shoulder not to cover anything up but to remember someone I loved very much who passed over I have his name and birthdate and death date inside the wings so mabe thats one reason some people get tattoos to remember the ones we love. Tami

I have four tattoos. The reason I have them..I like tattoos, I think they are beautiful, and I wanted to have some. I always wanted to have some because I thought they were interesting. No deep reason.

I have two of them and want many more.
I think they are beautiful are a way of expressing myself through my outward appearance. I like looking at myself in the mirror and thinking that my body art says something about who I am.
My first one is on my arm, and I got it when I was 18 and to be honest I don't like the design anymore. Ok I didn't like it about an hour after I got it. I rushed into it, and am now working on carefully desiging a cover up that I will enjoy for the rest of my life. My other one is on my ankle, and it is a little tribute to one of my favorite artists as well as a tribute to my cat whom I have had since I was a little kid and love like she is my child.
Everyone does things for different reasons.

Actually, I'm very happy with who I am, thanks.
People don't focus on my tattoo because it's not on an area of my body that is generally seen by the general public nor did I get it for the general public to see.
It's for me, and it's symbolic of my family.

I have 5 tattoos. They all have meaning to me and represent a certain place or phase in my life. I love looking at them and being reminded of where I was in my life when I got them.
