Ha, so now you know I am obese. Medically and also I like to eat. Besides the point.
When I am out in public people stare at me laugh at me, and talk about me out loud. They are down right rude to me. My daughter and I went to this Italian Resteraunt and was told we had to eat in the bar. I refused. So the waitress took us to a booth while she grinned. She knew their was no way I could fit into that booth. But she stood there and watched as I tried to get in. Along with everyone else in the resteraunt. There was not way I could fit. So when she left we moved to a table. By now everyone was starring at us. 30 minutes later we still had not been waited on. I said excuss me to the waitress numerous times and she acted like she did not hear me. So we finally got up and left. Fat people are humans also. Yet we get no respect from anyone. People are so mean to fat people. Or should I say obese people. Why is it?

I use to weight 140 now I weigh close to 400 pounds. ( WOW is right) I weight 140 14 years ago. I am not near 40. I had my left lung removed to lung disease and it was not from smoking. I do not smoke. This was a year and a half ago. So it is very hard for me to get around without being out of breath. Also I have thyroid disease and I am taking two pills daily because they do not make one pill strong enough. Because of having only one lung and being overweight they can not up my dosage.
And yes I like to eat the wrong foods. It is a combination of all three.

What that waitress did is really ****** up. I can't imagine someone being that openly cruel. Those people in public that make fun of you need to take a better look at themselves. I hope they trip in public and get made fun of the same way so they could get a taste of their own medicine. I think some people are so mean because it makes them feel more secure about their own appearance or they think it's funny. Or they really believe that if you don't look a certain way, then you don't deserve to be treated as well as the people that do. Or they think it's okay and that you're used to it. They're probably not thinking straight when they say/do those mean things. Try not to let it get to you. As long as you look nice on the inside, you'll have good friends who care about you. But you should watch your health.

Being a person who is also overweight, I can sympthize with you. People stare because the don't know you and they wonder why you would let youself become so large. Being moderately overweight is acceptable, however, if you become morbably obese, then you are looked at as an outcast.
My suggestion is to keep you head up and continue to live your life, but if what you are doing (eating) is causing your quality of life to suffer, then you should do something about it.
I personal have made a pledge to myself to loose weight, not for someone else, but for myself. Good Luck!

i would have reported her to the management! That is overly rude and mean!
As for why people have a "fear" of fat people...im not sure... i always fear i will get really fat/ obese.. i am already overweight but my mom and many of my family have had many health problems related to their weight and i already have a heart condition so it is a scarry idea... but a fear of them im not sure why.. i tend to feel either dsorry for them or feel as though they should be getting some help and wonder why they are not... i mean they might be but i dont know it... however when you watch them at the grocery store buying nothing but pizza, fried chicken, cookies, chips, coke, etc...... it makes you think. And obeiesity is becoming a big deal in america.... its kind of like.. why do people always look at people in wheel chairs.. maybe because it not what is considered the "ideal"

I have learned to ignore the remarks. And believe me at my size of 550 plus for 6 feet, I always get them. I am happy with my size and what I am so the remarks don't affect me. It took me a while to realize this - some time in high school as I went from 350 to 450 plus and endured many jokes. I lost it in college, was not happy, and went from 250 to my current weight in 15 years. I love it. If I don't get the service I expect from retail establishments becuase of my size, I will not frequent the store or restaurant and I will let both the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General know. Once it a while, that works. By taking my dollars elsewhere (especially with what I would spend at a restaurant), that is my way of delivering the message. I realize your weight gain is health related. I hope you accept yourself as you are and are happy.

However cruel people are to react as you describe to a 400 pound person, I can understand their behavior: 400 pound people clearly look like people needing serious medical help and perhaps some emotionally therapeutic help as well.
Believe me: there's no humor found in seeing a 400 pound obese person; people react to the prevalent personal tragedy of THAT person---a tragedy of obesity that will eventually kill them.
I'm not convinced medical limitations exist in your case: Get the REAL HELP you need to bring the weight down--and stop this second of making excuses!!!
You want respect? Respect yourself first.

The funny answer is they are just jealous because we dont look like we have an illness all the time or like like we are a bunch or crack whores like they do. But the serious answer is that making fun of larger people starts when your young. For some reason kids seem to have the sense of humor that its funny when fat people fun fall down or anything because of they have seen being made funny on TV. Its a crappy world one in which those of us who arnt a size 2-10 are made to feel as though we arnt normal but sucks for them because they can laugh but it only last for a few seconds.
