How do I "up" the quality of my N64 ROMs?

I downloaded an emulator, and the rom, but when I go to play the game, the quality is terrible. It runs fine, but the game has flickering boxes and stuff all over the place. Is it the ROM or the emulator that's screwy?

What do you mean different video plug-in? How do I go about that?

Probably the emulator. You may want to try a different video plugin.
