simply asking an opinion- mrscjr said i dont have an open mind and that im using a more "counch" approach to disagreeing with religion. Well you guys got me wrong - im catholic i went to a catholic school i went to church monday and sundays. But i just dont spend every minute of my life preaching. i have had answeres to my last questions by people who have either answerd through speaking about christianity or who have asked the same questions, i directed my questions to all religions not just christianity. and why are people so defensive about this topic? im so fascinated how when someone says something like gay marrige is wrong yet doesnt religion talk about forgiving ? shouldnt religion be a bit more accepting of people and their beleifs, and what makes us happy? . I have come to the conclusion based on peoples answers that No matter what people believe they will never truly be a good person weather in the name of religion or not until we accept other people and what they believe

I have found the most accepting people to be the least religious.
I don't know if there is or is not a God. So I am not a believer nor an athiest. I just know that usually when you smile at others they smile back; when you are accepting of others they are more likely to accept you; when you show kindness it is usually reciprocated. Learn how to bring out the best in others and don't worry about the rest. It is a waste of time to think you can change the world because you can't. We are all born into this world the same, have basically the same problems and will leave it the same regardless of religious beliefs.

It's a very touchy subject I know, i understand you. I recently read a book called 'I Am Muslim' by Dinah...oooh I forget her full name. I recommend EVERYONE in Malaysia read it, it's fascinating whether you're Muslim or not. She addresses some issues that can apply to all of us religious or not.
e.g. Girls in an all girl environment dealing with being attracted to other girls and even leaving education, still praying 5 times a day and wearing the 'tudung', but still being attracted to the same sex. Is it a sin even if you don't act on it and die alone? If God didn't want us to be attracted to people of the same sex, surely He had the power to prevent it from happening? The Koran acknowledges it and says it marks the approach of Armageddon when men resemble women and vice versa and same sex relationships are prevelant.
If it's forbidden, why didn't He stop it?
You're right, it's all about teaching the ignorant, learning about as much as we can and accepting other's beliefs without judging them. After all, it Gods call to judge us, not each other!

Many people act very irrational when it comes to questions regarding their faith.
They cant stand to think that they might be wrong. I have found that the More religious someone seems, the less tolerant they are of others.
They dont think the world is big enough for people to believe something different than they do. Cause it makes them question their own faith. They dont know why they believe what they believe, they just have been told to do so, or else.
the fear of Hell can be very powerful, if you believe in it.

Could be a communication problem or by chance most answerers turned out to be such.By and large,Yahoo answerers are quite balanced, with a bit of humor or a fanatic here and there.Try to re frame your questions. To come to a conclusion that people are no good is rather hasty and premature. We all know it[as well you, though in your heart ].

Forgiving someone doesn't mean that we accept their behavior if it's wrong. We still have our standards, but we give that person forgiveness anyway, recognizing that they are weak earthen vessels, as we ourselves are. God's forgiveness is not unconditional - He will only forgive us our sins if we in turn forgive others who hurt us in some way.
We as Christians have our beliefs, and while we should be personally loving and accepting of the non-Christian person themselves, we don't compromise our own beliefs while doing so. What you are essentially saying in your final few sentences is that you believe in what is known as religious syncretism, that all religions/belief systems and all gods are equally valid and lead to salvation - a belief that the ancient Romans held, and New Age believers today hold. I as a Christian, do not believe in this philosophy. As Christ Himself said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through Me."

Like you, I am a Catholic and am sometimes quite worried about the way people jump to conclusions on here without thinking or reading the questions properly.
I am really glad that my Catholic education taught me to be open minded and tolerant of the views of others, and it is a shame that some people seem to have been 'brain washed' into thinking that anyone who doesn't agree with their narrow opinions is evil and wicked.
We were given brains to think, explore and discover, not follow blindly like biblical sheep!!
I am so glad to have come across someone who defends tolerance and forgiveness- without this humanity cannot survive- and I fear for a future where intolerance and injustice proliferate- because this will destroy us.
Thanks for your question- it cheered me up!

Tolerance
The most lovable quality any human being can possess is tolerance. …. It is the vision that enables one to see things from another’s viewpoint…. It is the generosity that concedes to others the right to their own opinions and their own peculiarities….. It is the bigness that enables us to let people be happy in their own way instead of our way.

when you start talking about what 'religion' teaches, or what 'religion' should accept, you display a real lack of understanding...funny, your posts seem to be full of references to 'religion' and yet no references to God...as a catholic, you MUST be aware of what Christ (remember Him, the very basis of your church?) taught? He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. no one comes to the Father except through Me"...do you believe Him or not? He didn't say "it's all good, whatever makes you happy"
an open mind is one thing, but some folks have them so open, their brains fall out...

so i ask you this just me - if people are forgivin for their sins then why cant gays be forgiven? and why dont you accept this? is it so bad? you say the bible says its a sin but what do you reckon?
1. When you said why cant gays be forgiven??? Who suppose to forgive them? Man or God? People should forgive people who have done them wrong just as God forgives us all. I believe God is merciful and forgiving but if a man sins with an intent to sin...will God forgive him? Im not God, so God will be the judge..I believe the bible said that marriage is between a man and woman but God gave us free will and its up to people however they choose to use it...I support gay-union and wish them the best..As open minded as you say you are ...Do you respect and understand why people are against this union? If so then this shouldn't be a question. Not everybody's opinion are similar to yours.
You asked why we harm each other..FREE WILL
You asked why Christians and born again slander other religion?? They don't. They don't preach but they spread the word of God just like when you have good news and you share it with your family. Certain Christians however are limited to learn about other religions and one can only respect that decision.
The evil in the world are not brought by religion. Its brought by people who choose to do evil. God shaped us to become the people he wants us to be and its up to us how we use these gifts whether for the good or the bad. God did not promise us that everything will be perfect and everything will be nice..thats Heaven..God promised us that He will never leave us and never abandon us.
Just like yourself I'm Catholic. Priests do not use religion for their sick fetishes they use their power or authority. Children trusts them and they use their influence for that purpose. Just as much as parents, teachers, grand parents have sexually abused children. Are they forgivable? According to you they should be..Im leaving that to God.
You say religion should be more accepting of people and beliefs and what makes us happy..People and beliefs have changed in the course of time and religions have gradually changed with them. BUT the bible still says one thing and that can never be change and as a Christian..your purpose is to serve God.
"No matter what people believe they will never truly be a good person weather in the name of religion or not until we accept other people and what they believe"
Jeffrey Dahmer believed its pleasing to molest children and finds human cannibalism enjoyable..If we learn to accept that....does that make us good person ?
Gang members believe that they are being true to their family by killing other gang members who has done them wrong and it goes on and on....If we learn to accept that ..does that make us good person?
Do NOT compare religions....look at the similarities...It only comes out to 2 things....TO LOVE GOD WITH ALL OUR HEART AND SOUL and TO LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS AS WE LOVE OURSELVES. And if we can do that...we have served a good purpose in life.

This is R&S. Most of the people here will go to any lengths to protect their beliefs.
"We preach peace, forgiveness, tolerance and love. We practice vengeance, persecution, hatred and domination. My personal beliefs are supported and validated by my convictions. Oh, and never forget .... my religion is truth, yours is a lie." — Religion, paraphrased (unknown).
