The Army, like the AF has veterinary clinics on bases, although many are only equipped to give vaccinations and other minor treatment. http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/r40_905.pdf states “b. Animals owned by personnel authorized DOD medical care may be examined, have diagnostic tests performed, be immunized, and receive treatment for the prevention and control of diseases or conditions which may be transmissible to humans or animals, or those diseases or conditions which may constitute community health problems or are of significant public interest. Priority should be on preventive veterinary care.” If I recall correctly, the care isn’t free, but it is lower than at a civilian clinic.

Obviously, you can't bring your pets to basic and they can't stay in the dorm. Plus, you’ll need to make sure you have arrangements in place in the event you have to deploy.

If you are single, you will have to find someone to take your animals for you. Single, newly enlisted military members can not have pets in the dorms and that is most likely where you will be living for the first two to three years of your military career. If you are married, the animals can live with your family in base housing, but keep in mind there is often a wait to get it and you will have to rent a place until then and pets will be at the discrestion of the landlord. That being said..if the base has a vet clinic, you can be seen for routine things like shots and spay/nueater on a space available basis. These clinics are in place to provide treatment for military animals, so pets are not given priority, Even then the services are not free (although they are less than civilian providers). All bases I have been at tell pet owners to have an off base vet for purposes other than shots as more than likely that is where you would need to go if an emergency happens. This can include overseas. Also, keep in mind that the military does not HAVE to pay the costs of moving your pets with you, that pets such as ferrets, snakes and rodents are not allowed in some states or to be moved overseas, that taking them overseas can involve time in quaratine and you will need to get them chipped. All bases have strict leash laws as well as amount of time dogs may be left outside. Having a pet in the military takes a lot of effort and failure to do so can have consequences.

There is no such thing a free vet care. You will have to pay for the shots, medication, and check ups yourself.

While at basic training, someone will have to take care of your animals for you.

Are you married or single? Single soldiers are no always allowed to have pets in the barracks. If they are, then it's "quiet" animals. You know, fish, snakes, lizards, etc.

If you're married, then having your pets will depend on your landlord.

none whatsoever. if you are single, you will NOT be allowed to keep them in the barracks. if you are married, not every base housing allows pets, and many have restrictions as to what kind of pet as well as the number.

Base Vets see family Pets on a space A basis, as their primary mission is meat inspection/FDA stuff and the care and maintenance of Military Working Dogs. they typically only do routine vaccinations and exams. a few will do neutering and spaying, but few if any will do any thing more complicated.

You do know you can't take your pets to basic and after basic and ait, they can't live in the barracks. Even if married and living on post, pet care is not free...although it is cheaper than a regular vet.

Pets are usually discouraged in the military and defiantly do not get free health care. Sorry!!!
