Online, it is hard to tell a Poe from a Fundamentalist. Even if someone is a moderate Christian it would be hard to know if they are being truthful.

What is a litmus test for knowing who is a "real" Christian?

Please forgive me for commiting the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.

A real Christian is a person who claims to be a Christian.

There is really nothing else we can use to test it out other than maybe seeing if they are prone to wanting to those who disagree with them (i.e. if they want to kill all the atheists, jews, muslims whatever then they're Christians while if they don't then they're not).

Galatians 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

1 John 4:2 - By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God.

You can usually tell a genuine Christian by how dedicated he is to following Christ. How does he conduct himself? Does he continuously behave in ways that contradict what he claims to believe? Or does he strive to do better? A "real" Christian isn't perfect. No one is. But a real Christian will live a Christ-centered life, not a self-centered life or a job-centered life or even a family-centered life. He puts the Lord first always, and he's better for it. :)

No way to know. Someone could be completely faithful and devoted, but have no knowledge of the Bible; and we have seen countless times how well Atheists and people of other religions do know the Bible.

And I will forgive your "No True Scotsman" fallacy if you will forgive me for answering your question with a cliche'... "Pray about it and the Holy Spirit will guide you."

1.) Matthew 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:----There must be true repentance. True repentance is turning away from sin the moment you accepted Jesus Christ.

2.) Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; -------A real born-again saved believer---is moved by the Holy Spirit. We can't see the person's heart but God can and thru the Holy Spirit you will see it thru that persons goodworks. If you are truly saved you will manifest goodworks as a result of being saved not the other way around.

3.) 2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift. -----you will have the gift of thanksgiving. Thanking God for His gift of salvation. One way of expressing gratitude is by professing Him as your Lord and Saviour and preaching the gospel to unbelievers especially to your family.

4.) Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, -----you must possess these fruits of the Spirit.

5.) Philippians 1:11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. -----there should be the fruit of righteousness that must come from Jesus Christ not from yourself.----John 14:15-If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Hope this can help.
Another thing, here are 9 nine conditions that prove a person has a genuine saving faith

2.Repentance from sin
3. Genuine humility
4. Devotion to God's Glory
5. Continual prayer
6. Selfless love
7. Separation from the world
8. Spiritual growth
9. Obedience.

To God be the Glory! Forever and ever! Amen!

I hav no religion but i have belief, i can say so because religion is not a savior. I Believe in Jesus and i believe that He is the only savior, that's for the preface.

Cristian being truthfull because their christian is only their identitiy, it's not a belief. So, they do not love as the christ command to us.
Christian can be truthfull if they have Jesus in their heart, but for some people including me we are still a human, we born by sin and born to make mistakes, some song say that. But if Jesus is in me i just being fear of God and i will think for a thousand times to making a mistake in other words being truthfull. So, we are still a human and there's no reason for us to free from the sin.

There is a litmus test? Some say yes some say no
Why?
Some say yes because the test is held by ourself, from us, and for ourself.
And some say no because nobody can test it. it's just held in our heart.

I tell you what, that it is not true if you say chistian is like an angel who can't do sin.
God bless you

There is really no way to prove it other than living your life as one, having faith that Jesus Christ is God, Lord, and Savior, and that He suffered & died for our sins, and was raised, and will eventually come again in final judgement. It is by this faith that we will be saved. Works and human actions alone will not save us, nor do they alone prove that you are a Christian. God still wants us to perform these works of Christian charity and love - partly as a visible manifestation of our faith, and partly as a living witness for Christ to others around us. But these works alone without faith will not get you into heaven.

This, in a brief nutshell, is how someone would "prove" that they are Christian - It takes literally living a lifetime of this to do it.

much like a tree, you can tell a Christian by their *fruit*. see gal. 5:22-23 for some thoughts on the type of *fruit* a Christian would bear.

fyi. online, you can't tell anything...personally, i believe that some of these hardcore *atheists* probably sit in a pew each sunday, then come here to vent their bitterness and anger...

Proving takes a long time.

If you are giving a test, first you must know the characters of God then you have to observe it in others. As one cannot fulfill all the characters of God you cannot decide or judge others because you cannot know the heart of any one. God can judge anyone because He knows the heart of all.

Only thing that you can observe is whether they have God's love, forgiveness, sacrifice etc. because these are God's characters.

Its impossible to tell. I mean we all know Jesus says by their fruits you will now them. However, we are behind computer screens; there is no personal connection, therefore you can never really know. I could be some deranged mental patient out on pass hehe

No one has to prove anything. You can only take someone at their word. Although if a person is not a Christian their works will show it sooner or later.
