Mary interecedes for us with Jesus, because the queen mother of the kingdom ... going all the way back to Solomon ... has always been charged with the responsibility to intercede for the people, with the king.
Jesus remains the one mediator between God the Father and man.
See how simple that was?
Non-Catholics fail to understand this because they have been deliberately taught to ignore the scriptures which prove it ... and because protestant theology has been greatly flawed, from the start.

It's not Biblical. "There is but one mediator between God and man, Jesus Christ" (1 Tim 2:5)
Some Roman Catholics will make the argument that the Greek word for “one” in that passage indicates that there is one PRIMARY mediator. The problem with that argument is that the passage says that there is one God too. It’s the same word. So is there one PRIMARY God and one PRIMARY mediator? No. There is only one God and there is only one Mediator.
The only trustworthy information about Mary and her role is found in the Scriptures where information was written by those who knew her personally and, more importantly, whose writings were under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Less than 90 Bible verses talk about the life of Mary. In them we find a wonderful humble servant of the Lord who rejoices in Him as her Savior (Lk 1: 47)… Mary’s ministry was simply the birth and nurturing of the child Jesus. Once He reached adulthood, she played no influential part in His earthly service. It’s at the wedding feast of Cana, which began the public ministry of Jesus, that her last words are recorded. Mary then fades into the background of history.
Search the Scriptures as you will and you will find no leadership role for Mary among the Apostles. She taught no doctrine. We never hear of the Apostles seeking her out for counsel.
Other than the gospels, Mary is mentioned only once in the New Testament, where the Book of Acts tells us of her simple participation in a prayer meeting along with her sons.
The RC church needed a Godess to satisfy her formerly pagan citizens who wanted a female diety to worship, so they re-invented Mary by grafting on pagan concepts and promoted her to the position of the Queen of Heaven.

I would also call it idolatry, Mary did not die for us on the cross, Christ did, so He is the mediator between God and mankind.

Think of asking your father, mother, sister, brother, friend, pastor, or fellow church goer to pray for you. Are we not allowed to do that. Yes we are.
Now think of some one who has already died and gone to heaven. Are the not more righteous than us who are still living.
We do not pray to the holy mother to ask to do things that only god can do. What we do is we ask her to pray for us as we would our father, mother, brother, sister, pastor, or fellow church goer.
One other thing it is not Idolotry. Idolotry is the worshiping of a statue that has been made into a god. We have statues of Mary in our churches yes but we do not worship them nor has Mary ever been turned into a goddess. We see her as a human being who was given grace by god even before she was born. Nothing more.
