I think they don't want to be held accountable for their actions.

Religious people actually worry about this far more than Atheists do. A belief in God automatically leads to the issue of which God is the correct God, and people who believe in God have this added dilemma. Atheists do not fear choosing the 'wrong' God, because they believe that there is no God.
Atheists feel threatened by religion because it imposes beliefs that they do not have on them; it tries to impose a faith structure on them that they are not part of.

Since they don't believe in a God, this would be a faulty conclusion. I don't believe in God, and I don't really care if anyone else holds my beliefs or not.
The reason they're "threatened" is because religious fundamentalists are constantly attacking Atheists and trying to shove religion at them. I'd say that's the threat.

I am an athiest and what bothers me the most about religion is not a potential threat, but how religious people I know, at least in my opinion, blindly accept something that offers no benefit and is clearly false. I don't fear anything in the end because through the course of my life and my experiences I am confidant in my knowledge that there is and cannot be a god.

If God exists, there are only two possibilities:
1) He can be the almighty, omniscient, benevolent deity that theists claim to believe in. In this case, he wouldn't want people to worship him. He would prefer that people help each other in life instead of wasting their time attempting to stroke his ego. Atheists have nothing to worry about if God is almighty, omniscient, and benevolent.
2) He can be the fallible, ignorant, selfish deity that theists actually believe in. In this case, he would punish people for eternity simply because they don't worship him. Atheists have made the right choice by refusing to worship this type of God. Everyone else should do the same.

I tend to think that you think that you have everything figured out.
Everyone, regardless of spiritual beliefs or lack thereof, all have their own reasons behind their beliefs.
I do not agree with you on the statement that Atheists in particular feel threatened by religion. I believe that everyone has their reason to question authority, regardless what that authority may be.....
blessed be

of course not. It's the opposite. Which do you think is easier: to believe in some magical place where we'll live happily after we die or to believe that we'll just die and cease to exist? Fear of death is one of the huge reasons that people are religious. Most atheists were religious earlier in their life. Why do you think people would turn from a belief that we will be in eternal paradise when we die with our loved ones in favor of believing that we'll be worm food after we die? It's because we honestly don't see any evidence for believing in God so we can't believe something that irrational. It's not a matter of wanting to believe or not

Since I am held accountable for my actions reguardless of the existance of any diety that cannot be the reason.
If I meet a being that judges me for how I have lived my life, then it will be proud of all the things I have done to help my fellow man.
Can you say the same?

No, it's fear of the unknown that makes people religious.

God isn't real for everyone. You could argue God makes himself real for some or some make God real for themselves. But the fact remains, it just doesn't "click" for everyone. Regardless of any evidence or logic proving whichever way.
