I know God whispers to us but we must be still and listen. sometimes i hear his voice. but sometimes i think i hear the answers that i subconsciously want to hear. On Sunday i heard a preacher say that, when we pray we are having a conversation with God and not a monologue. So once in a while, we must be silent and stop the inner chatter in our head and listen to what God is saying back. what are your experience?

its true... sometimes you have to be silent to listen to God. I recently went to a youth conference and the preacher preached about silence. He said that sometimes we get so carried away and we scream and cry and make such a big deal when were praying... and i quote.. he said "sometimes we just gotta shut up". That way we could hear God talk to us. it was an amazing preaching... however.. not everyone can hear God. He sometimes only speaks to some people. I personally have never heard an actual voice.. but he speaks to me through preachings.. music. Even in everyday life with certain things that happen. with everyone its different. God Bless.

Your conversation with god is a metaphor for your life, to stop and listening means taking inventory of the needs of others and not being overly self absorbed.

Seriously, 'hearing voices' is not good.

It reminds me of the woman asking Johnathan Edwards how he knows when god is talking to him and when its just his own voice, a question phrased like that, has no right answer for a presidential candidate, and I think she was trying to help his campaign

When you read bible you actually hearing the voice of God(word is God=Jesus) when you meditate the word you can really hear voices noting other words ,connecting other words from your heart, which is already stored with God's words and also through some incidents, which are occurring to others. You can see the difference from your occurrences etc. God can speak through any one, even through a child if you are ready to hear and do. If you are ready to hear Him He will speak.

Do we hear Him in our heads,or is that our voices we're hearing? Are Christians the only ones who can hear the voice of God? if God loves all human beings, surely he'll whisper to us too, regardless of religion, believer or non-believer.

The most important thing in hearing the "still, small voice", I think, is to have inner peace. Sin causes a lot of noise...among other things.

All you say is correct. As for guidance; you must know your Scripture - that is your sheet anchor. Listen to those who preach and teach according to Scripture and are known to be sound. Check, as far as possible, that they are Christians ie do they believe Christ is God. Don't assume this, many are not Christians.
