I feed my puppy Royal Canin. A nosy neighbor keeps insisting that we switch my puppy to Ol' Roy. She even brought me two bags of that stuff. She says that I am "throwing my money down the drain" by feeding my dog Royal Canin. She even got real upset and said that all dog food is made the same. She says that she feeds her dogs and cats Ol' Roy and they love it. She says that Ol' Roy was voted "Best tasting dog food in America". Personally I think she must own stock in Ol' Roy by the way she promotes that brand. I am suspicious of it because of the ingredients & low cost. Frankly, I don't want to take any chances with my puppy. I want to ensure he gets the nutrients that he needs from a high quality dog food.
My vet recommends Royal Canin. I told my Nosey neighbor this and she got mad and accused my VET of being "in Cahoots" with Royal Canin. She refused to take back the bags of Ol'Roy & got offended.
What do you think of Ol' Roy? I do not want to switch my dog food.

This nosey neighbor offered to walk my puppy while I'm at work. I think I am going to say no, because she'll probably feed him Ol' Roy. I am going to tell her to mind her own business and return those two bags of Ol' Roy. She even gave my an envelope full of Ol' Roy coupons and rebates. I am so sick of this!

You are totally right. Ol'roy is one of the worst foods ever made. You're neighbor is crazy for pushing it on you.
Royal canin is much, much better...but not necessarily the best. It still uses corn, wheat, and hulls as fillers, although the specific fillers vary depending on the kind you get.
Look into these brands and compare to royal canin
merrick
canidae
california natural
natural balance
oven baked tradition
wellness
solid gold
innova
natures variety
go! natural
chicken soup
I think you'll be suprised. Also visit http://www.dogfoodproject.com It's a great website and has the best info on dog food I have ever found.

No matter how broke I was, or how much someone offered to pay me I wouldn't feed that to a dead dog.
Ol'roy is horrible food. Crappy ingredients, nevermind that they have countless recalls, most consumers never hear about.
Royal Canin isn't great, but it is FAR better than Ol'roy.
Maybe you could use those bags of food for a fire, or mulch or something?

Ol Roy is dog poison. Most all of the grocery store brands are very bad, and this is one of the worst.
As your neighbor why she thinks that corn is healthier as a main ingredient than meat?
RoyalCanin isn't really a great product, (though far superior to Ol Roy, and other grocery store brands), it's overpriced and tries to pass as a premium brand. Like Purina One, Iams, and Eukanuba.
Try one of the foods Jennifer R listed. If cost is a concern, Canidae is a bargain and still an excellent food.

I agree with most of the posts that ol roy is not the best food for your dog. Visit this site to check out a really outstanding food for your dog. I can not say enough about the health benefits I have seen in my four dogs since feeding the Lifes Abundance from this site.

I wouldn't feed my dog Ol' Roy for all the money in the world. Your vet may be in cahoots with Royal Canin, but I would still feed Royal Canin over Ol' Roy any day of the week and twice on Sunday. If your dog is doing good on Royal Canin and you are happy with it. Leave the bags on your neighbor's porch and the next time she comes over tell her to mind her own business and or she won't be allowed back in your house.

Well you can tell her neighbor to shove that bag up her butt.. (sorry) ol'roy is one of the worst brands out there. You tell her that this brand is full of by-products, corn, grain, artificisal flavoring and other nasty products. Now of course your dog food is better the ol'roy but royal canin is also not very good.
I would try canidae, hand down besides innova it's the best dog food out there.

Listen
Dont let her walk your dog. Every dog is different. her animals might like that kind of food. Do what your vet said. Now when your dog get older and you want to change the you do that on you own. i work at a animal shelter and we feed all the dogs here Diamond Brand yes it cost but your not picking up alot of mess.

I think you're right- your vet knows way more than your crazy neighbor. I don't know what her problem is, but I think you are doing a great job by feeding your dog a good quality food. Ol' Roy is the WalMart house brand. It is really cheap and low quality. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. It's like Alpo, etc. You can show your neighbor the ingredients labels from both foods, which shows the contents are different. But it probably won't matter. She doesn't sound rational anyway.
