I am not sure what you are looking at in the wiring, but the tire pressure monitoring system on Corollas is an integral part of the ABS system. If you do not have ABS, you cannot have the pressure monitoring, because the system uses the ABS speed sensors to compare the speed of each indiviual wheel/tire. When a particular wheel is turning slower than the others, or has an irregular speed rate, the system judges that the tire pressure is low. It is WAY too expensive to add ABS if it is not already equipped. I am afraid I don't know anything about after-market monitoring systems. I agree, if it is really important to you, a different car is your best bet.

Buy a new car that has the system in place.

The way the Joe Blow tire pressure monitiors work is by installing the "sending units" inside the tire which is part of the air stem or valves. They use/send a radio wave to the receiver and presto, tire pressure at a glance.

The more expensive systems I have only seen on military vehicles like a few Hummer models and the LAV25's. These will probably fall by the way side unless they have run flat tires (self sealing) and an air pump that will actually inflate the tires with a air pump under the hood. 99.999^% of the cars and trucks on the planet do not have this system as it isn't practical and it requires the engineers to pull out their remaining hairs to "make it fit".

Good Luck!

The Toyota tech is correct about the ABS system. However, relativaly inexpensive Tire pressure monitoring aftermarket kits are available. These system include the 4 sensors for each wheel/tire and a reciever unit which can be plugged into a cigarette lighter. This type of system is much more reliable than the ABS type system. while you're setting up new tpms you will could desire to set it as much as the place the automobiles sensors seize them if that dosent artwork only take you sensors out of your inventory rims and placed them interior the aftermarket rims.
