caffeine can give you an irregular heart beat that throws your breathing out of sync with your lungs. Practice, practice, practice. Breathing during extended runs requires rhythm and can be perfected with practice. I breathe hard even when I don't need to just to build my rhythm so when I need to breathe hard all I have to do is keep my rhythm which helps me keep my pace also. Good luck and don't get frustrated, every good athlete started somewhere.

I suggest you see a doctor about it. But if you're running but you find it hard to breathe then you night have short breath? I have it and when I'm running 400m or even 200m i find it hard to breath and run. I'm not quite sure on how you can improve it but i find that the more i train and the more i get used to the distance then you can learn to control your breathing. If you feel dizzy and you can't see very well then i defiantly suggest you go to the doctors and get a blood test done because it might have something to do with your blood sugar or something like that. I can't remember what it's called but check anyways.

I was never a great runner, but when I joined the Air Force- well, you have to run! One thing that helped me was the cadences spoke/sung while jogging in formation. It controls your breathing and gives you something to focus on other than how out of breath and tired you are. I know it might not translate well to real life, but maybe try running to music, singing quietly to yourself, focus on jogging to that beat, while singing or humming the words to control your breathing. Good luck!!

Controlling your speed will help you control your breathing. Sounds like you're just trying to run fast as everyone else. Practice running at conversational pace - the pace at which you can run/jog and still talk to someone else.
Good Luck

I think everyone has trouble. The key is to take heavy breaths. I was never a good runner, but loved it. I joined track and lost 5 out of 5 races. And came in LAST PLACE 3 out of 5 races. But I never gave up. So if you just practice and have a passion for the sport you will improve. Hope I helped!!! Good luck!! =)

I'd recommend trying to find some sort of exercise tape or something that teaches you to control your breathing. It helps a lot, but of course, the best thing to do is practice. Run everywhere, and do it every day. You'll build up stamina in no time.
Unless, of course, you have asthma. Then you need to ask your doctor.
