It reads "let US make man in OUR likeliness". Who was God talking too?

OUR likeness means the example of the trinity. NO the word trinity is not mentioned in scripture but this is so obvious that God is speaking as the Father, to the Son, and through the Spirit. God is THREE IN ONE. i know that is hard to understand however i know it to be true, because I know whom I have believed.

actually god was talking to the other gods.

see if you look up the original word for god in the first part of genesis (elohim) you will find out that the word means plural.

and dont let anyone fool you into thinking it was the angels, because that would of course mean that God(s) had help making the universe.

and dont let them decieve you with the old well he meant father son and holy ghost bit either. the trinity was never mentioned in the old testament until much later, if at all. so how could some poor old jew write about something he didnt know about??

ps. there are TWO creation stories in the bible. the first one speaks of Gods as in plural, and tells about the creation of the universe, and the earth, and plants and of course humans.

then the second tells the story of the local God Yawheh and his garden, with his own man and woman.

and of course we all know what happened with yawheh's story.
he told man and woman Not to eat from the tree of good and evil (he said they would die if they did). yet they did it anyway, and then they got ashamed of thier nudeness and hid from yawheh. then yawheh got nervous that the humans might become like gods (having free-will AND being immortal) if they stretched out thier hands and ate from the tree of life too.

so yawheh out of fear of the two humans banished them to the earh, where they had two sons, who years later killed the other, and yawheh cursed him. and then cain proceeded to run out of the sight of Yawheh over to some of the "other" people where he fell in love and married.

anyway the bible creation story definitely doesnt point to the existence of just one god.

Blessed Be,
Demosthenes

I asked the SAME THING.

First, it depends on which version you are talking about. My dad who went to a very relgious private school for Highschool had no clue of this. On the other hand, my friend explained it as this.

"It is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. "

So my next question was: wait, Jesus didn't turn up until thousands of years later!

"When god created the earth, he already had a plan put into place that included Jesus comming. Jesus's Spirit/soul/whatever had already volunteered for dying for our sins"

She is Mormon, but this is the best answer I had recieved.

I have other theories, but a few people regret asking me question already because I put my opinions, and to begin to describe my opinions requires a short book.

jesus christ, God's co-maker

Jesus lived in heaven as a spirit person before he came to earth. He was God's first creation, and so he is called the "firstborn" Son of God. (Colossians 1:15; Revelation 3:14) Jesus is the only Son that God created by himself. Jehovah used the prehuman Jesus as his "master worker" in creating all other things in heaven and on earth. (Proverbs 8:22-31; Colossians 1:16, 17) God also used him as His chief spokesman. That is why Jesus is called "the Word."—John 1:1-3; Revelation 19:13.

God was talking to the other Heavenly Beings [Arch Angels, Angels, etc.]... and desired to create Man to have a spiritual characteristic or trait as well, in addition to having physical attributes that the rest of the animal kingdom possesses.

Peace be with you.

After reading some of the other posts, maybe I can shed some light on it.....
In Genesis 1, 'God' in hebrew is ELOHIM, which is a plural form of EL or ELOAH, or GodS. Now, we have a commandment....'You shall have no other gods beside me', meaning God the Creator, YHWH, which appears in chapter 2, means HE IS ONE. Yahshua also said He is ONE with the Father, and that WE are to be ONE WITH HIM AS HE IS ONE. So, we have a 'dualism' here....the FATHER is ONE, singular God, creator of EVERYTHING(and Yahshua confirms this on the cross...'Eloi, Eloi llama sabachtani')and, as WE are ONE IN SPIRIT WITH THE FATHER, we are then called....SONS OF GOD....ELOHIM.
I've already told you too much. NOW, YOU have to figure out what is being CREATED in Genesis 1, and what is being created in GENESIS 2, and why Genesis 1 is 'God'(Elohim), and in Genesis 2 it is LORD God(YHWH ELohim).
Now you have more questions, don't you?

It is a holdover from a polytheistic era. The word "God" is translated from the Hebrew "Elohim". In Hebrew, the -im ending is plural. If you read the Song of Deborah (Judges 5) and Psalm 18, which are in a very old Hebrew, you will read of a Zeus-like God.

The Torah gives several answers to your question. 1/ He is talking to His Heavenly Court; 2/ He is talking to humans who will read His Torah in the future to understand where they came from; 3/ Hebrew has the Royal "We" as does English. When the Queen of Great Britain says 'We are not amused." she is not implying that there are several queens, but that she as Queen also speaks for the entire nation. The same is with Hebrew. G-d is not only speaking for Himself but for His entire Creation.

He was speaking to Jesus Christ. Check out this scripture in Hebrews 1:

"1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;"

That last phrase is the key: "his Son...by whom also he made the worlds." God made the world through Jesus Christ. (Heavenly Father may be sort of like the director and Christ the laborer?)
