This guy was leading me on for a long time and making me feel like we were dating. He was asking me to go on trips with him and even talked about taking me to the Grand Canyon. Then someone mentioned that he had a girlfriend. At first I didn't believe them, but then I noticed that he was dragging out the whole scenario without any commitment, and he was sending me a ton of mixed signals. I started sending him short, abrupt little emails instead of the long, lingering ones he was used to. Then he went away on vacation. I stopped emailing altogether even for weeks after he was back home. Now things are very awkward. He is playing friendly and people are still making like we're on the brink of dating. But I know different. Should I tell him what I know? Should I cut if off, or resume our usual routine in hopes of some kind of confession? What on earth is the best way to handle this?

But I never even said that I know for sure that he has a girlfriend. The person who said that is kind of shady. It may be just a rumor or an attempt to ruin things. How can I find out if it's true?

It may be awkward, but you can learn a lot from this experience. And NO, I would not resume the usual routine with him. I would completely ignore him and not even give him the time of day. However, if he does approach you, you might look him straight in the eye and say, "why didn't you tell me you had a g/f instead of leading me on, deceiving me and keeping me in the dark?" Be assured, he has made his choice between you and her. If anyone feels awkward, it should be him and not you, hon.
In the future, get more info on a guy before you invest too much of your "heart" into the relationship. Ask around and get as many facts on him as possible. Now that you know some of the clues to look out for, don't forget them.
