How can I erase the background image from a pic?

It depends on how complex the background/foreground is.

The easiest way is to simply use the eraser tool. This is not the best or most versatile way, but that's what the eraser does and may just work for you.

Or you could use the extract tool and then copy and paste the extracted image to a new file with a transparent background.
