It is by the grace of God that eyes are opened.
"Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing they do not hear or understand." Matthew 13:13
When Peter "saw", Jesus responded:
"Jesus replied, 'Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but my Father in heaven." -Matthew 16:17
Therefore, we must pray for those that are blind to the truth - so that God would reveal Himself to them!
God bless!

I allow Satan to blind me because I am weak and selfish and I do not want to admit that I am a sinner. I know that I will go to hell if I don't repent, but I refuse to change because I don't care. I am miserable, so I enjoy making other people miserable also.
May I ask how you, even as a Christian, would know truth if you were being blinded by Satan? Could you be worshipping a false God? If you were, how would you know it? You cannot say that you would "just know in your heart" because your heart is being fooled and blinded. That is the original assumption. No matter what anyone believes about anything, they are subject to being fooled and not realizing it, whether it is by Satan or anything else. No one can say with absolute certainty that they know the truth about anything but can only make their very best guess. I don't care to base my guesses on the ancient words of primitive men.

Ridiculous assumptions are the signs of a weak mind.
You assume that:
1) Satan is real
2) it is he who somehow "takes hold" of anything
3) that it is you who is not blind
4) that you know the truth.
Having four absurd assumptions in one sentence makes it impossible to answer any single question when phrased that way.
There is no proof of Satan any more than there is of god.
Fictional characters cannot have or take hold of anything, especially a conceptual thing such as a spiritual heart.
It can be demonstrated by empirical logic that it is the theist who is intellectually "blind."
To the extent that anyone can claim to know "truth" it is far more likely that the atheist's position is closer to demonstrable positive truth.
Finally, even if ANY of your absurd assumptions were true, we did not nor do we ever "Let" anyone take hold of our hearts. If it was god who made us this way, so be it. If it is simply a refusal to let religious brainwashing take hold of our hearts, then so be it. Either way, we did not let anything negative happen. If you truly believe in a single great deity who has everything under control, then stop worrying about it and get on with your life. He is in control. If he isn't in control, then why did he make so many people with brains who are not afraid of superstitious fictional archangels. For that matter, why would we mess-up creation with one stupid bad angel. If your god is perfect, why did he create Satan in the first place?
If your trite, knee-jerk, one-size-fits-all answer is, "To test our faith!" ...then ask yourself, what kind of screwball deity would do such an idiotic evil thing?

Christians, why have you let God take hold of your hearts and blind you from seeing the truth? It works both ways you see. The only difference is we atheist are not making a claim we cannot prove. An atheist is someone that has not seen evidence that points to the existence of god. So there is no reason for us to believe in one. We don't claim there is no god. Do you understand this? I think if there truly were a god, he wouldn't want us to burn in hell. He would have provided concrete proof that was undeniable then given us the freewill to choose. Since Christians have yet to provide this proof of their claim, I am lead to believe, that either there isn't a god or if there is, he could care less if we burn for eternity. Religion? Thanks but no thanks!

That's easy. I'm just not intelligent enough to understand how a God who loves burnt animal sacrifices sent his son to die in order to atone for the sins of humanity which were based on the original sins of 2 imaginary people less than 10,000 years ago at the supposed beginning of the world in an imaginary garden who were seduced by a talking snake.
It seems a bit far fetched to me. I think the story about the turtle carrying the earth on it's back is slightly more plausible.
Oh, praise satan! My hero.

Because your God supposedly made it that way. And if God is everything that ever was and ever shall be then isn't Satan God's creation? If God truly wanted me close to him then why would he create Satan to blind me from his very existence? You can say because we must have faith and must want it to be able to find God. But why would the system work that way? If we accept your beliefs as truth then we must accept that we only have to suffer to see the truth because your God made it that way. If he's God then there's no reason for him to have created suffering in the first place. It serves no purpose that God himself could not accomplish in some other way, no?

Why do you let morons like Pat Robertson take hold of your heart and blind you from seeing the truth? I'm an Atheist and I don't believe the devil or god exists. I look at you and think your a brain washed moron for just taking someones word for it that god exists. How can you believe in something you've never seen before? Don't tell me you sit at the fireplace on Christmas eve waiting for santa claus still......do you?

My heart, like yours, is a pump. Truth does not require belief.
"Truth does not demand belief. Scientists do not join hands every Sunday, singing, 'yes, gravity is real! I will have faith! I will be strong! I believe in my heart that what goes up, up, up must come down, down. down. Amen!' If they did, we would think they were pretty insecure about it." — Dan Barker (ex-preacher).
"We preach peace, forgiveness, tolerance and love. We practice vengeance, persecution, hatred and domination. My personal beliefs are supported and validated by my convictions. Oh, and never forget .... my religion is truth, yours is a lie." — Religion, paraphrased (unknown).

Wow, I was really suprised at some of the answers you received. Why is it that just because you believe in God, that they hate you for it? I think that its jealousy...wouldn't everyone be happier if they believed they could spend an eternity in paradise?
Anyways, you believe that those who don't believe in God has been corrupted by Satan. I disagree. I don't think that every "bad" choice we make was because Satan has corrupted us. God gave us free will..."free" being we have a choice. If Satan was making us do something, then it wouldn't be a choice or free would it? I think its the really evil things that Satan has control of; murderers, molestors, etc.
Personally, I don't know if I believe in God or not. I do believe that there is some "higher power" out there because there has to be...I just don't know if that higher power has anything to do with us. It takes a lot more to believe in God than it does to not believe in God. Why? Because there is no physical evidence whatsoever that truly proves God is real. The Bible was written by people, and people can lie. I'm not saying that they DID lie, I'm saying that they could have lied.
Everyone that doesn't believe in a god, wishes they did. I go to bed every night praying that there is a God, because I don't want my life to be worthless. I don't want to believe that when people die, they stop existing. I don't want to believe that humans came into existance by sheer chance and evolution, and not because God made us and will reward us in the afterlife. I don't want to believe that if I don't believe in God, I will spend an eternity in Hell. But the fact is, it takes a lot to believe in God. For some, too much. For some people who see how large the universe is, and how every living thing functions, and can explain why processes occur.....they can't look at all that and truly believe in God. And for some people, they can't believe in God just for fear of going to Hell if they don't. Religion based on fear is worse than no religion at all. So I think I just answered your question. For those who don't believe in God, its not because Satan corrupted them, its just that they can't believe in God.

I don't believe in Satan, he doesn't exist. Satan is just a fable to frighten children, and an excuse used by adults who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions.
That is the truth, dear girl.
