It depends on the Tradition of Wicca. In some versions, all Goddesses are one Goddess and all Gods are one God; therefore, it matters little what name you worship Them under. While Diana and Artemis are common Goddesses in Wiccan practice (both being associated with the moon), many others are honored, depending on the needs and taste of the individual Wiccan. Some Wiccans honor Her simply as the Goddess, gracious Mother of all living things.

Some Wiccans honor only the female face of Deity; myself, I prefer to worship the God and the Goddess as a team, because it makes the most sense to me that They love each other and balance each other. The God, like the Goddess, has many faces, but in Wicca He is often honored as the Horned One (no connection to the Christian Devil; rather, He is the Stag King, Lord of all that is wild and free). In most cases, the God is seen as the Lady's beloved consort, equal to Her or slightly inferior to Her, but never superior.

The Goddess, in Wiccan practice, has many different names, depending on what Wiccan tradition you are referring to. Ultimately, Wiccans view the Goddess in a way that best makes sense to them. For some, it is seeing her as the Greek Goddess Diana, while Celtic Wiccans might relate to her as Dana or Bridgit, etc. The Wiccan connection to the divine is highly personal, and so different Wiccan connect to different aspects of the Goddess. In the end, most Wiccans view all goddesses as merely different aspects of the Goddess.

As for worshipping the God, that's personal choice as well. While it is important in Wiccan thought to realize that there is both a masculine and a feminine, whether or not you decide to actually worship the God as well is your own choice. I do, and so do most other Wiccans I have met, but that's only because it is right for me. Again, like the Goddess, you can worship any aspect of the God that you choose. Many Celtic Wiccans worship Him as Cernunnos, but just as many use a different face entirely.

The Goddess has hundreds, maybe even thousands of names, and many witches call her by the name/s that are most comfortable for them. Some simply use the word "Goddess" to refer to all feminine aspects of nature.

*Keep in mind that each witch is different and each witch's beliefs can be vastly different. Don't let that confuse you. Just go on the path you feel is appropriate for you.

For some witches, particularly those who consider themselves to be eclectic, traditional, or "pre-Gardnerian," the goddess is not an actual entity but a sacred symbol of all that is feminine in nature and the universe, because this is the true deity--the goddess and the god are equal polarities of nature. Names are simply a method of identifying certain characteristics.

The ancient gods and goddesses are names for different aspects for the God and Goddess. In spells or rituals you can call on these specific aspects to focus the energy the way you want it. As for everyday use, you pick which names to call them. I personally leave them without name unless I want to invoke different aspects in spell or ritual. It is not required that you worship both in Wicca, only that you recognize the polarity of the divine. The way you interpret that is up to you. The God is the Father as the Goddess is the Mother. He is the sky and she is the earth. He embodies all masculine energy and she feminine. He is the sun and she the moon. Hope that helps. I wish you the best on your spiritual journey. Blessed be. )O(

You can be a Dianic Wiccan, who worship the goddess Diana - the huntress, the goddess of the moon.

Or you can be any other kind of Wiccan - most Wiccans who are not Dianic do worship both a male and female diety- those dieties can be of whichever pantheon you like. Most common seem to be Brigid and Dagda.

Must? No must. But if you really wish to be Wiccan, it helps if you follow the precepts of Wicca as it was meant, and that is dual worship, male and female, balance.

This is how I've come to learn it - There's a divine source of energy from which all things come (non-gendered, culmination of all things), and from that source, you can derive the male and female aspects (God and Goddess). From them, you can derive each of the personality and trait archetypes (like Apollo, for inspiration, and like Hecate for wisdom and knowledge).

Basically, starting at the top of a big river that branches down into many paths.

Some Wiccans worship the Goddess or one of her aspects only, others both the God and Goddess. Whatever your feelings and personal preferences are.

My opinion ...

There are many Goddesses. When you read "the Goddess" in a particular ritual etc. you can imagine it to be any Goddess you choose - anyone you feel close to.

I believe that one of the main benefits of Wicca is balance. Balance within yourself. Yes, you should be connecting with Male divinity as much as Female divinity.

Artemis, Diana or any other name are just one aspect of the feminine portion of divinity. Generally, there are three types of goddess-aspects: Maiden, Mother, Crone (or wise-woman); each can have different significance.

Some Wiccans chose to focus solely on the Goddess; many choose both, viewing a balance of male and female divinity as healthier.

As I view it, we all share the same beach, along with those of other paths. We can chose which names/faces/images to draw onto that beach; it's al lthe same sand. That said, certain names/aspects do carry different weights; please be cautious about appropriating gods of other paths.

I hope you're ready for this.
The Goddess is the universal Female principal and The God is the universal Male principal. Whatever form of them resonates with you; that you can use to focus your mind and energy is the right one. The concept is so basic that you have to approach from what you know. Once you master that you will be ready for the next step. REMEMBER
"each seeker must find their own path" some are very winding indeed.

The way a friend of mine explained it was this: "One deity, multiple gods that make up to be the deity."
Research and do what feels right! I read a book about wicca and its history, and it basically said the same thing. You can seek the form of the goddess that you desire most.
