Interesting question.
I think I agree with you, it is a double standard - though only if you take it on purely the level that the 'creator' of something has as much right as the creator of something else.....
If I were to take a less black & white look at it & if I were to believe in a god I guess my answer would be that god is all knowing and has a much greater intellect than his creation (though that of course creates another whole set of issues) so he is in a better position to judge things.
A parent of another human is still just a human - probably no more intelligent over all than the human in question. Though of course this falls apart a little when refering to a baby & certainly to a fetus in the early stages of pregnancy........
I like the analogy / logic behind the question.....

Dear mooseback,
God is sovereign and does have a right to do whatever He wants. And as a heavenly Father does what is best for His creation.
Though not a perfect analogy (because human parents are far from perfect) parents too should do what is in the best interest of the child.
Interferring with free will is not against "God's rules." The Bible teaches that we should use our free will for good and not for bad. For example if you are walking along a park and you see a woman getting raped or beaten (should you not help her?) i think you are creating rules about God that don't exist.
Yes God does value people's freedom. But God wants people to use that freedom to do what's right.
Abortion from a moral standpoint is not right. Christians can be against abortion- that doesn't mean that abortions don't happen. In fact there are Christian ministries who counsel woman who suffer a tremendous amount of guilt and depression after having an abortin.
Everyone has the freedom to do whatever they want- but everyone doesn't always choose to do the right thing. God has the freedom to do whatever He wants, and God always chooses to do the right thing.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

I'm confused on what you mean by "we should free god" or do you mean fear?
Here is what I've had trouble understanding "WE FIGHT FOR THE LIVES OF INNOCENTS, THEN GO OVERSEAS AND KILL CIVILIANS....PERFECT LOGIC"(this too me was a double standard) but as I thought about it I realized....
People are responsible for the consequences of their choices, not a god. I don't believe parents should do WHATEVER they want with their kids. I think how one would go about dealing with certain situations(as in this case abortion) should honestly depend on the circumstances of the situation itself. And I truly believe that there is no "one size fits all" (One answer works for everything) type of deal when it comes to morality. MORALITY IS ABSTRACT NOT ABSOLUTE.
So to sum it up, look at the situation, look at the options, and find a solution that would best help achieve a balance(physically, mentally, spiritually) for oneself and or others in the situation at hand. I hope this helps.

Haha another thing , To the one that said "God decides who lives and dies" If god decides who lives and dies, then is giving medicine to the extremely ill going against god's desires? Because he could have intended for that person to die in the first place and we just ****** up his plan. Sorry, I've always wondered what people's response is for this side.

Mooseback, you act as if God is the reason for everything that has to do with death. HE is not!! You don't understand....Death comes to us all...it is a part of life, and nothing lasts forever here on earth. Also, some are in the wrong place at the wrong times when bad things happen. If we believe in Jesus as our savior...then after we die (physical death) , we will have eternal life in heaven.
Children are a gift from God himself...he is the reason why we can procreate. And if you think about it, those who were slain might have been bad people who deserved to have their lives taken...where on the other hand, the lives of innocent, unborn children DO NOT deserve to be murdered in such a horiffic manner.
Man does have free will to be able to make choices, but those choices CAN BE RIGHT, or THEY CAN BE WRONG. Ultimately, the decision is yours to believe what you want to believe, but that doesn't mean that your beliefs are right!

God does not interfere with our free will. He does however tell us what he wants us to do...but the choice is always ours. If we choose to defy that which he states is good...and to pursue that which he states is bad...that is our choice...and it is we...that will pay the consequences in the end.
Is it okay for someone to come and shoot you in the head and take your life? After all, it was the free will of that shooter that told them to do it. It is okay for someone to take away your property...your safety...your peace of mind...your human rights? You seem to support the idea that man has free will to do whatever he wants...as long as you are the do-er...and not the one who it is being done to. What do you think the aborted babies would say if they had the opportunity to make the choice? This has nothing to do with God or with religion. It is a matter of one person versus another. The stage of development should not be an issue...whether it is new and yet incomplete...or whether it is complete...or whether it is old and falling apart. How can anyone make the judgement that one human being...whatever its stage ...is less valuable than the wishes of another? If that is the standard by which we should live...then it is okay for me to kill you because I think you are less valuable than I am...right?

you seem confused or I'm not getting it?you have free will, why would parents plan to have children of their own free will and abort them, if they planned to have kids ? wouldn't they have them?besides you don't hold the patent on DNA or you could sue some one for having kids without your permission. life is not property. this issue was fixed in the US in 1864. other wise you could kill your kids at 17, before the age of consent and say that you were reducing inventory.abortion is the cop-out.are you saying that your parents own you and can kill you if they planned it in advance to kill you at 12 years old because they hate dealing with teenagers?can you sell your daughter into prostitution because you fashioned her with your very own hands in the laboratory even though it is against her free will to do so? the double standard is you saying you have free will even though you have parents that "created you", that can kill you tomorrow cause they created you , but you have free will but you are under your parents will and they can end you but you have free will to live but your parents can kill you cause they made you so you don't have free will cause your parents have free will to kill you so you don't have free will but ....................

Children are NOT the property of their parents!
If you lived by your own statement, then why would it be wrong for your parents to kill you right now?
A infant, either in the womb or out has it's own DNA and is an individual human being. Simply because it's an inconvience is no reason to deny the infant the right to live!

"Should parents be able to do whatever they want with the kids they create?"
Like torture, sodomy, rape, murder???
no double standard...just ask the baby first. After all, the baby should have a say in it as well.
EDIT: Who are you to assume that you know my God???
For one thing . . . the Old Testament alludes to GOD’s Mercy . . . but more frequently the Old Testament demonstrates the Justice of GOD . . . demonstrating the ‘effects’ of what happens to those who go against GOD’s Law or who lack ‘Covenant’ with GOD . . . especially demonstrating the punishments coming forth from GOD’s Justice against those Members of the ‘Covenant People of GOD’ who go against the Law of their GOD . . . but also demonstrating the same awful punishments to all those surrounding Peoples who are outside of GOD’s Covenant.
This ‘Old Testament’ perspective seems appropriate to an Old Testament world which hardly seemed to even understand the ‘concept’ of Mercy through Sacrifice . . . in their ‘eye for an eye’ and ‘tooth for a tooth’ view of Justice . . . the mentality which preceded GOD’s Ten-Commandment Law for HIS Covenant People, the Jews . . . and more precisely this hard view of Justice which preceded CHRIST’s Teachings of Mercy obtained through Believing in CHRIST as Savior together with a Life Lived in Repentance and self-Sacrifice demonstrated in the Crucifixion.

A healthy fear of god does not mean that we fear that he will punish us or anything like that. It is a fear that we will hurt and upset him, yes it can be done. All of us belong to god and owe him everything in the sense that if it werent for him we wouldnt be here. Yes the parents make the kids, but who made the parents, and their parents, and their parents parents? It all traces back to God.
