I need over the boot tights for figure skating (I'm in a itermediate level) I'm wondering some of the basics on tights. Do you wear two pair of tights? What kind of tights? Any brands that are better than others? PLEASE HELP!!

Try different ones out and see what's comfortable for you!

This is what I did. I always wore silopads (this is before Bunga Pads got popular) . . . so I always wore thin knee highs so I can adjust the pads where I needed it to be (too hard to do that with footed tights). I got those cheap boxed 6 pairs of knee highs for like $2-3 from someplace like Kmart. No matter what - this is what I always wore in the skate.

If I was wearing a warm up suit for practice, I would wear Mondor footless tights underneath for extra warmth. If I wore leggings, I'd wear thin footless dance tights under the leggings.

I got the cheap thin footless dance tights from a local dance shop - maybe around $6-7 a pair (they are thicker and smoother than "street" panythose, but not as thick as Mondors).

If I was wearing a practice dress, I'd wear the thin footless dance tights and then wear Mondor footless tights over that. I'd put the thin footless over the top of the boots so it would cover the hooks. Then I'd put the Mondor's over that. Sometimes the hooks would poke a hole through the tights, so the "cheaper" thin ones protected the more expensive Mondor tights!

In competition, I always wore the thin dance tights underneath, and the Danskin over-the-boot-skate over them. I only wore the over-the-boot style when competing as I did a lot of lunge type stuff - and I didn't want to ruin my tights!! Again, the thin tights gave me extra warmth, but it helped to protect my over-the-boot tights from those hook holes!

Anyway, that's what suited me . . . comfort-wise and functionally. Oh - and I liked the thin and thick together. Two thick Mondors did not work for me - it felt too tight!!! But that's just me.

Good luck!!

Usually for a competition or exhibition I use a single new pair of tights or two pairs of tights (the new pair on top, and an older pair on the bottom). I use the Mondor footed tights (like these ones http://www.skatedresswarehouse.com/product_info.php/products_id/215 ) because the over the boot ones typically aren't long enough for me because I'm so tall (even though I order the tall length, they still aren't long enough with the over the boot, but they are fine in the footed ones). When practicing when it is colder in the winter (it gets fairly cold where I live) I usually wear two pairs of tights to prevent from getting cold, but in the summer one pair seems to be plenty. All tights seem to be similar, but every skater seems to have their preference, I like the Mondor brand the best just for a few little things that they have on their tights that some other brands don't have.

I wear footed tights and over the boot tights on top of that. The brand that I use I think is Mondor. But I'm not sure...either that or Danskin.
