...left us first-hand accounts of his knowledge of Christ?

For example:
John had THIS to say:
"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have SEEN with our eyes, which we have LOOKED upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
(For the life was manifested, and we have SEEN it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
That which WE HAVE SEEN AND HEARD DECLARE WE UNTO YOU, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."
I John 1:1-5
Is that wonderful or what?

That's a real high!!!
All others are looking for that.

Scott...If i told you that Shakespeare's work was really written by Francis Bacon, does that really make any difference. It's the song, not the singer, in this case.

1Jn 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
1Jn 1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
1Jn 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1Jn 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
1Jn 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1Jn 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

these verses are not only wonderful but true. What is your problem.

Yeah, 1 John is a great book. The main reason he focused on Christ being experienced through his and the other apostles senses is he was dealing with early gnosticism which thought that the physical body was evil, and denied that Christ came in a physical body. This was one of the main purposes of the book.

Yes. I have a commentary that tells me that John was dealing with heresy in the asian churches he felt responsible for. And he wanted to make sure that they knew that Jesus was as a man in the flesh, that he wasn't merely an apparition ( one of the heresies) and that he wasn't some guy who happened along and BAM! there was the Holy Spirit who abandoned Jesus on the cross (another heresy active at the time).

Actually the true authorship of the various books of the Bible are not known. The Book of John is no more likely to have been written by John than tyhe Gospel of Judas was likely to have been written by Judas.

There is no reason to accept any of the books of the Bible as first-hand accounts of anything except your preacher's say-so. And your say-so.

And that's just not good enough.
