Hi There -
I am going to assume that you just got this dog today from the sounds of your post. I am willing to bet that in a few days the dog will adjust. It is not unusual for a dog to be concerned about life changes. One way dogs show this concern is to not eat. Re-homing is a huge stress for a dog, be patient and as hard as it is just try to give him some space. If he is crate trained please provide him a crate. It's the one thing a dog can take with him and call home... If he is not crate trained perhaps he had a special bed or something that you can put off the beaten path so he can go there and be quiet.
Best of Luck to you and Congrats on taking in a dog in need!

Poor baby is just sad. Animals do feel and when attached to another person, it can take time to adjust. Give the baby some time and when you're home, make the extra effort to love on him. When he's hungry enough, he will eat. Also treats! My animals love treats!
Hit PetsMart, pick up treats, toys and all sorts of fun stuff so when your pooch starts to perk up he's got things to look forward to playing with.
Good luck!

It sometimes takes a few days, but he will get used to you. I hope you are using the name she gave him. Just keep being kind to him, but let him come to you. You can go over and pet him and talk nicely but don't try to engage him in play yet. It does take awhile but he will be worth it. They are wonderful dogs.
It is so nice of you to take him in since she can't take care of him. I am sure it broke her heart to have to give him away.

1. They are entirely sympathetic about your problems at the office 2. They enjoy hearing baout your golf game, hole by hole, shot by shot. 3. They like the same television programs as I do. 4. Food can square away any differences 5. They hardly ever object to anything on moral grounds.

If you are still in contact with the older women, find out what he likes to eat.
If not give table food, bacon or turkey for special treats, and lots of love, it will come around.

I would suggest taking a class together so that he learns that you can be a source of fun things! Even if he's well trained, a basic class will help him adapt to you as his new pack leader.

Have patience and give him some space. Let him adjust to his new home and to you.
He should start to come around. It could take weeks for him to get used to you.
He will not starve himself to death. Do not give him human food. You will creating a bad habit.
Just leave his kibble out.

He's mourning and will just need some time. Just give him as much love and comfort as you can.
