You get either a stud fee or pick of the litter. It's best to have everything in writing. Also both dogs should have a negative brucellosis test.

No not unless that is in a contract. You either charge stud fee or pick of a litter. Not both. Most people just charge a stud fee and not pick of a litter because what if the litter isn't a good one.

The owners of the male and female have to come to an agreement of whether it will be pick of the litter or a stud fee. Personally I would choose the stud fee.

I always thought if you didn't get stud fee that you got first pick of the litter. So yes you are correct unless you get a person that don't have any integrity. Then you just got screwed. Now days you have to have anything in writing because of this.

What did the contract say? If it was oral, did you say you wanted this up front? If not, there is no requirement for you to get first pick (or any other or cash for that matter).
Popperman: Some people are really stupid and don't understand that the proper English word for a female canine lupus domesticus is biiitch so unless it is mispelled, yahoo replaces it with astericks.

You should always figure that out before the agreement. You could compromise. For example, you get the pick of the litter now, and the other person gets it next time. Vise Versa.

Depends on the deal you make when you breed.. If you only breed to quality females taking a puppy wouldn't be a problem. But if you are going to breed to just any female out there, then you will want the cash.. Personally I wouldn't even risk my dog's health breeding to crap females.. Disease, parasites, and everything else.. Just plain not worth it..

I think it depends on what the owner of the female and male dog decide.
