possibly take your son with you
that way he can pick out his bed and it will be fun day out for the two of you.
But if he picks a very "ugly" or "expensive" bed just use your mother skills and persuade him to another one

Have fun!

My daughter is still in a crib but I will not be using a toddler bed. She will go straight to a regular bed. Of course I will purchase the rails so she can't falloff but I figure why buy another bed that she's only going to use for a short time. It's just something else to spend money on that's going to end up being put in the basement or attic. The regular bed she will have for years to come.

Honestly, in my opinion (and I'm a frugal person!) I skipped the whole toddler bed thing and went straight to a regular bed. I moved my son at 22 mos and he was fine (but he is very laidback!) First we put the box spring and mattress (twin) on the floor. Then when we did buy a bed (a bunk bed, but that was our choice bc Im pregnant with second child, u buy what bed u want!) we just moved him right to it. He didnt even need the bed rail, but they do recommend it. I would just skip the toddler bed bc they soon outgrow it and you have to buy ANOTHER bed then anyway! Why not just go straight to the twin and put up the bed rail? Saves you money and will definitely be better quality. Just my thoughts! :)

My husband and I decided to re-do our sons whole room for his 2nd birthday. He loves spiderman so thats what we did it in. Yes he might only use it for 2-3 years but he will enjoy it! It probably cost us $200.00 dollars at the most to get his room fixed up. We bought the bedroom in a box that comes with a toddler bed, toy rack, table and chairs.I think the bed is just the right size for him and he loves! The main thing is do YOU think that your child is ready for a big bed or would you feel more comfortable in a toddler bed.

I have put both of mine straight from the cot to a normal single sized bed. (with a bed rail to stop them falling out) They both had the bed in their room before making the transition so they got used to it, played on it and knew it was their bed. Don't bother with a toddler sized bed as you will be then buying another one in 2-3 years time. aAcaptains bed would be good but make sure that he is confidently able to get in and out and that the bars/rails on it are sturdy and long.
Try taking the side off the cot before he goes in the big bed for a while and try having his day sleep in the big bed before making it the night time too.

Good luck

Oh, and my daughter was 22mths and my son was 18mths when they went into the big bed.
