Also, do I need to pay income tax as well? I only make $6.50 per hour, working 3-5 days per week.

I am a dependent, 16 years old, and made less than $1500.

There is an income level that if you are below you dont need to file . The tax forms are pretty easy to do though so you may want to start filing . The booklet explains who needs to file.

That depends on how much you made, not how old you are or whether you were part- or full-time.

For 2006, if you were a dependent and made over $5150 - or not a dependent and made over $8450 - then you are required to file. This is if you are single, and worked as an employee - limits for other filing statuses are different.

For 2007, the limits are $5350 (dependent) znc $8750 (not a dependent).

If you made less that the limit so you were not required to file, but anything was deducted from your pay for federal income tax (it will be on your W-2) then you should file to get that amount refunded to you.

Unless you are volunteering and offering your services for free, then you are earning an income and are subject to paying income tax. Being employed is not a right but a duty and a privilege ... and so is being a citizen. Paying your taxes is, like voting, a practical way to show your appreciation for living in a free, democratic, and prosperous country ... and your desire to keep it that way. You use your country's services every day. It's only right and fair that you should help to pay for them, now that you have an income and can afford to give your share.

Based on what you said, you wouldn't owe any taxes anyhow. You wouldn't really have to file a return unless you are having money withheld from your paycheck; then you want to file the return to get your refund.
