Here is the PERFECT camera for traveling!

You should get the PENTAX Optio W30. It has TONS of features, VERY good picture quality, its sleek & stylish. And to add to all that, its waterproof! You can see the camera here: http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/product_details/digital_camera--Optio_W30/reqID--9587364/subsection--optio
I have had the PENTAX Optio W10 (a slighty older version) for a few years now and I absolutely LOVE it!

If money is no object I would suggest a NikonD200...shoots 8 frames in one second. Nikon is the best camera out there, and has been for several years. Next time you see a papparazzi shoot look what they are shooting with...NIKON! The lens is also just as important...it not more vital than the body of the camera itself. Get a 17-55 2.8...don't ever go any higer than a F2.8. This combination will run you about $2,500, but it will be a camera that you will have for at least 10 years.

Now if you want zoom like you mention...then the 70-200 is the class glass to have...of course that lens alone will run you about $1600.

I also love photography...I've take lots of pictures in my time, and every single time, people ask me "What type of camera do you shoot with, those pictures are sharp!?!"

Of course if money is not coming off the trees, the try the NIKON D40...can't remember how much that cost, but it's a an ok camera. Go to the NIKON website to see the D200.

Good Luck.

Go to shutterbug.com and do a Search for the Pentax K10D. Its a 10 megapixel camera with Image Stabilization in the body (where it belongs IMO) and can use all Pentax K-mount lenses.
