Does "negging" work? if so how?

I have heard of it before, (basicly its when you slip in an insult to a girl [like a hack at her appearance] to lower her self esteme).

I mean it has its merits, since love isnt the same for everyone. It may seem more like a player tactic though. Any players or females have any thoughts on this (also try and think instinctivly instaid of just being morally outraged)

It works fine if you are seducing a hot girl, who is insecure about herself, and who is used to a lot of attention and/or compliments from needy guys. It makes her question her value, which makes her question if you are better then she is. This (in turn) makes her somewhat more approachable, and makes you stand out from the other guys. Essentially, it brings her back down to earth, where mere mortals can once again have an ordinary conversation with her.

Where it doesn't work so well, is when the girl in question 1) isn't very hot, or 2) if she is hot, but hasn't always been that way (i.e. an ugly duckling). In these cases, negging a girl is more likely to make her burst into tears, so use it with some discretion.

Like many other player tactics, it does work, but it is most effective when you have less to offer a girl, and when the girl isn't smart or self-aware enough to recognize what's going on. If you use it indiscriminately to insult women, in all likelihood they will just insult you back. You have to keep things playful, and just tense enough to be a interesting challenge to women.
