They suggest that I use Premium for maximum performance, but it doesn't say its Premium only like other cars I've had.

I've been driving a Murano for about 8 months now and no where does it say premium is required. I put in the regular gas and I've had no car problems. Premium gas is mainly for cars whose engines cannot handle regular gas during the ignition. Most new cars are designed to be able to run on regular gas. Besides that, the premium does not help your car and is in no way better for the environment.

Wow, I see some answers saying that 85octane is available in your area! No thanks!
I drive a V6 injected Nissan - Z, not Murano, but still, I get considerably better mileage (maybe 10%) on premium, easily enough to justify the 5% cost difference here in New Zealand. We have 91regular thru to 98Premium. Remember, in Japan, cars run from 92-100 octane, 97 a norm, and the best performance & economy will be gained by high octane gas on late model japanese engines.
This is not true on many other more agricultural motors, but absolute on 2liter & above injected Jappas.
In other words, you may well SAVE MONEY by using more expensive fuel, per mile.

It depends on where you live. I live in Utah (high elevation) so cars here usually don't need to use the higher octane gas. The easiest way to find out is if you put in a lower octane fuel and you hear a knocking sound coming from the engine (especially when you hit the gas) then you need to use a higher octane fuel. I own a Subaru WRX and a Nissan Pathfinder. Both say to use 91 octane, but I put 88 in both of them and they run great.

I Have Onwed a Used 06 Murano S AWD For quite a while now (Even Tough I live in Canada and have the U.S. model) I Use Grades 90 and 85 and to me the 90 juat makes better fuel economy, a better roar of the 350Z engine, has better 0-60 time , and makes it faster. For hasher Conditons I suggest 90 with 10% Ethanol or higher.

Use the premium. Unless you have about 5k spare change when you damage the engine. I hate it as well, I have to run it. Now in the winter months, if you live where it actually gets cold you can run regular w/ octane booster and save a few bucks.

If it says use premium, use premium. If it doesn't, don't. Simple as that.
