Okay - go back to the doctor or see a specialist (i.e. dermatologist) & let him/her know. Sometimes, it takes a couple of tries to get the right prescription since every one is unique.

BTW, consistent use is key. Make sure your daughter used the stuff exactly as directed.

Acne itself isn't fatal but the scarring is a real bummer so don't waste anymore time or $ on OTC for her serious acne.

She should continue using proactive or try Clinique. At the same time, she should try to eat lots of fresh fruits and drink an adequate amount of water daily. The following are some things that usually help:

1) Wash scalp thoroughly, using a dandruff shampoo to get rid of flakes. Flaky scalp results in bad skin as well.
2) Minimize hair grooming products. Make sure that they are rinsed away from face and back. Even hairspray can cause breakouts.
3) Use an astringent to clean residue from the back after washing or conditioning hair.
4) Style hair away from face, avoid bangs.
5) If she must wear it, use cosmetics or make-up intended for sensitive skin, those without perfume or ingredients that cause allergic reactions. When possible, go without foundation or powder until the skin heals.
6) Avoid carbonated beverages.
7) Get a little sun but not for more than 15 minutes at a time.
8) Get adequate sleep. If all this fails, then take her to a dermatologist for help. However, do not allow her to take Accutane since it has been shown to cause deformities in babies of women who took this medicine.

I don't know where some people get their info, but I disagree with continuing with the Proactive---many people are sensitive to Benzoyl Peroxide and they actually end up with worse skin. As for Accutane--it only causes birth defects if pregnant women take it or if you have not been off it for a while before getting pregnant. It can be wonderfully therapeutic for some people--but it should not be taken lightly.
Take your daughter to a dermotologist and tell her to be patient. It sometimes takes trying a few different things and doses before hitting on the right treatment.

I was gonna say Proactive, but then I noticed you already mentioned it. Well, you could try St.Ives daily cleanser...I found it works well with my skin. Does her skin look irritated or red? Well...if so...try the Eucerin Redness Reducer Collection.I think they have 5 steps to do to help reduce redness.Even though it may not get rid of acne, this will definitely reduce the apperance of the acne.Good Luck!!!

There are some kinds of birth control pills that work very well to deal with acne in girls (guys can't take them, given that the hormones are female hormones). You might talk to your doctor about her using those.

well it's hard telling when you don't know how old she is, but i'm 23 and if i drink pop or eat alot of candy or sweets highi in sugar, i tend to get acne. So i just watch what i eat and drink. That helps alot. I don't drink pop hardly at all anymore or eat candy bars and what not.
