No, the seperation anxiety is not severe--he was pretty good up until this weekend when he started whining even before we had left the house. It's unusual for him...and yes, to the vet he will go if it continues.

Animals can sense changes in the barometric pressure and in the atmosphere.

Before the tsunami in Indonesia, the wild animals all headed for higher ground.

I live in Florida, and before a hurricane, all of the frogs climb to high ground. It's wild.

I have no experience to draw on here, having lived in CA and WA most of my life. But I had a dog that could sense an earthquake, usually a few hours before it happened. We'd find him huddled behind the toilet, shaking and sure enough, the ground would start shaking too. So, I think it's definitely possible; (s)he's probably reacting to a change in atmospheric pressure.

Not sure they can sense a hurricanes however, they can sense storms. My Golden will let me know a thunder storm is coming 30 min. before I ever do. I can be sunny outside and she is shaking and in my lap. Only happens when a storm is coming.
so it could be. Good luck

I'm sure some dogs can be trained to sense hurricanes. However, I don't think your average dog could sense a hurricane. And if your dog is displaying severe separation anxiety you should take him/her to a vet

All animals are sensitive to changes in the wheather....I was raised on a farm....my dad never watched the news, but he could always tell the weather. He said he could do it by watching the sky and the animals. We always watched the animals, if they ran for cover so did we!!

I believe animals have a sense of danger. Not sure how or really studied to know. But, yea, they know. If, your dog decides to bark, wag it's tail and run for the hills, I suggest you follow.
