I've wanted to join the Marine Reserves for a long time. I know that more and more reserve units (from all branches) are being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan due to the fairly high turnover in troop deployments. However, I'm willing to protect our and others' freedoms.

I will have a Bachelor of Arts, Juris Doctor (law), and Master's of Business Administration when I join the reserves. After basic training, if I get accepted, I'd like to complete the Marine Officer Candidates School with the ambition of becoming a Judge Advocate General.

After ALL that is said and done, would I be more like to spend some time overseas? Or, would I more than likely be positioned at the Pentagon? (I guess it depends on my rank--O1, O2...O5.)

Thank you, and Semper Fidelis!

Almost all Marines will go over seas. The chances of you being stationed at the Pentagon as a reservist are about nil. So, chances are good you'll go. I know we had a JAG with us when I went. After all is said and done, it comes down to the needs of the Marine Corps. Good Luck.

Why would anyone with your credentials enlist. You qualify for OCS without first becoming an enlisted man. You need to talk with an officers recruiter to find out what's involved with you becoming an officers candidate.

Only the Marine Corps can answer your question regarding deployment. It sounds as though a legal position will open up for you, once you complete training. I personnally doubt the Marine Corps will have much for you to do, attached to a rifle company, in a war zone !

Needs of the military come first. Most likely you will see a time in the middle east. Though with your educational background, make sure the recruitment paperwork you sign, specifically states that you are going to OCS. Nothing against recruiters, but some are more shady then used car salesmen.

i think of you have each and every of the superb reasons to connect! additionally, gain this considering you like your united states of america and savor the freedoms that have been given to you by ability of usa's founding fathers and the service the protection tension supplies to the rustic. end college FIRST considering you need to end what you began. yet see approximately turning out to be to be a member of a campus NROTC software whilst completing your degree, and circulate in as an officer, considering you have already began college. Then use the USMC to stay with for graduate college and come out of the protection tension along with your grasp's degree after 5 or extra years (10 in the reserves, i think of). If no NROTC software, circulate to a school that has one. some classes enable you to holiday from yet another college. I joined the army for the duration of my final months of high school, used DEP to end extreme college and experience my summer season. I even have under no circumstances regretted that determination, and my time in the protection tension replaced into dazzling!!! My in basic terms be apologetic approximately replaced into that i could no longer reenlist (Crohn's ailment) and understand my lifelong dream of serving as a occupation soldier in the international's correct military.

If you join, if you make it through Boot Camp, if you make it through OCS (getting my drift?), then you will be a Company Grade Officer, which means as a lieutenant, you will be responsible for commanding a platoon of Marines and guess where commanders are needed these days....trust your instincts. I admire your motivations, just don't delude yourself about your chances of commanding in a combat environment.

First of all, if you already have a batchelor degree you may be able to join and become an officer directly. You don't have to enlist first to become an officer.

Speak with an OFFICER (not enlisted) recruiter. Ask them about joining the JAG corp directly.

Don't speak with an enlisted recruiter -- speak with an officer recruiter, trust me on that.

I'm a Naval Officer, but I have many Marine Officer friends.

Rank is no guarantee you won't go overseas. Generals , doctors, dentists, all go overseas.

It doesn't depend on your rank. It depends on the needs of the Marine Corps.

With your education, you should be eligible for a commission, depending on your age.

The military will send you where ever you are needed. Even JAG lawyers do get deployed, but you will not be placed in combat.
