would they take it away from me? And if so, will they give it back? This goes for any other valuable possession.

Well that's because I have to ride a plane to S.C.

I know some Recruits who brought an Ipod with them for the plane ride and carried a flat-rate padded mailer with them, already pre-addressed and stamped. They got off the plane, tucked the Ipod into the mailer with their cell phone, and mailed it home for safekeeping until they returned.

You can get the mailers at the post office, and even purchase the postage at that time. It can go in any USMail receptical at the airport... ... and if you schmooze the folks at the USO, maybe they'll handle it for you!

Its not the smartest thing to do. They will make you bag it up, and either ship it home, or keep it locked up for 13 weeks. To try to save some money, my platoon didn't send home our personal stuff. They had us bag it up, and then they put it in a warehouse, and we got our bags back the day before we graduated. 13 week old dirty clothes, that had been marinating in a hot @$$ warehouse. If you want your iPod to go through that, go for it.

My advice, suck up no iPod for the plane ride, you won't see it for 13 weeks anyway, just have your parents bring it with them to your graduation.

As for things like your wallet and stuff, you will get a small bag that you put that in, and they will make you hold it and count off with it every night before you go to bed. You will secure it in your foot locker.

Personal items like that are packed up and sent home. If you worry about losing your iPOD, don't take it with you to boot camp.

Most personal items are not allowed in boot camp, just basic things like eyeglasses. The Marines will supply you with everything you will need, but no luxuries.

They'll take it away and bag it with the rest of your stuff and you'll get that back after graduation. Keep your wallet with you, you'll need that for the in processing stuff. Don't pack your bible away either if you keep one, you can keep that thru boot. Good luck.

If I was you, I would not even consider bringing the IPOD. Yes they will give it back. They will lock it up and secure it till you graduate.

yes it will be taken away. It will either be mailed back to your Home of Record, or locked up until you graduate.

Why would you do that to begin with. Unless your goal is to attract extra attention to yourself just leave it at home.
