When the huricane hits and there is no safe public water, how about putting some bottles of water in a car with the windows rolled up to pasturize it?

Please critically evaluate this idea. State reasoning clearly.

Here is a link on pasturizing water:
http://solarcooking.org/pasteurization/default.htm

And here is a link on how hot it can get in a car:
http://www.injuryprevention.org/states/la/hotcars/hotcars.htm

What factors would maximize the temperature. Which angle relative to the sun? Shades on the north side?

Thanks Tarkarri for the link to fema, but they make no mention of the pasturizing concept of only having to heat water to 145 F. Is this just to new for FEMA to have assimulated into their recomendations or are there risk/benifits that we should be discussing.

You are beter to use the heat to create a water distillation device.

You don't even need a vehicle for this, just sit the pot used in the sun!

Or even tie a clean plastic bag over a leafy tree branch (if there are any left) to collect transpired water.

If you use the techniques listed in that website then yes you can but, make sure you get a thermostat to measure the temperature and make sure it is above 145 degrees in there
