I have had 3,they cost from $250 to $1500.for a pet grade pup they eat large breed puppy dry for 15months and large breed adult dry food food after They eat 4 to 5 cups a day when growing and you have to go by the dog as an adult. They are fairly low maintenance. they have super fine short hair. They do well in most situations, like in small houses they adapt quickly and are very gracefull. They fear no dogs and few people, are very intelligent ,very loving. They are like a little dog that doesn't know they are large. They only live 9 or 10 years as they grow so much that they are using 8 or 9 yrs in 1 human year. You will never forget these gentle giants once you have had one.

I've owned Danes for over 25 years. The price of a Dane from a responsible breeder is anywhere from $600 on up..depending on color family, bloodlines, area of the country, etc.
You need to do the same things care wise for a Dane as you do any other dog..proper socialization, proper training, proper vet care, proper nutrition, proper exercise.
if fed a good qaulity food Danes don't really eat all that much.
I feed Canidae dry & wet to my Danes..My 12 month old Rescue eats 5 cups dry (2 in the am and 3 in the pm) plus 1 can (1/2 am, 1/2 pm)..my 13 month old show boy eats 4 cups dry (2 am, 2 pm) plus 1 can (1/2 am, 1/2 pm), my 5 year old eats 4 cups plus @ 1/2 can divided into 2 meals.
One very important thing..you NEVER, EVER, EVER feed a Dane puppy puppy food of any kind not even large breed..it is way too high in protein levels and in calcium and can cause some very seriosu growth issues, some of which could cripple it for life or cause it to have to be euthanised.
A well bred, well cared for Dane can live into it's teens.
It costs more for spay/neuter, Frontline, heartguard then it does for smaller breeds but it's not that big a deal.
I recommend that you get the book The Great Dane, Model of Nobility by Jill Swedlow..it is a very good book with correct info. It is really the best Dane book out there.

Great Danes aren't as active as some other big dogs, but they still need daily walks (or two) to keep them going strong. Large breeds also eat more than smaller dogs, but if you're feeding a quality dog food, it won't be too bad.
This is a great place to start for anecdotal stories about Danes. I think they're gorgeous, personally. Sadly, I don't have one, but I've spent some time around them and they are generally just beautiful gentle sweethearts.
Here are some websites that can help you with research. Good luck!

i don't own one, but like you i want one someday!! I've researched them to death! they can get bloat, hip problems, and multiple other health issues. not to mention expensive vet bills and dog food!!!! be sure and check out the Dane rescues!! there is a HUGE one in CA, and all over the US... here is a site for one rescue in CO(rmgreatdane.org). These dogs all need help and a lot of times they get puppies too. as for how much a dog cost, that depends on the breeder, I've seen them anywhere from $450-2500!! it all depends
good luck! hope i help at least some!! oh, you can go into your search engine and put great Dane characteristics and that will help a lot!! you should also know, they aren't a very long-lived dog... sad

I want one too. I've heard you are not supposed to feed the puppies puppy food, because of how fast they grow anyway.
Something about their bones will not develop right...or something like that. I would imagine a pet quality would run you anywhere from $500.00 to $800.00, but there are tons of Great Danes rescues where you can adopt unwanted Great Danes. There are a lot of them, because people get them underestimating their size and care that they need. It can become too much dog for some people. The price is just a guesstimate....based on TN prices that I've seen...but people could sell them cheaper than this and definitely higher.

I got a rescue. He cost me $75. He didn't really eat much more than any other dog. Okay, Maybe alittle. But he was the best dog I've ever had. But something you need to keep in mind. They don't live very long. I had to have mine euthanized at age 10. So I'll never own one again.
