Today at the store the big fat woman ahead of me had a ton of groceries. And of course she waited till every last item had been scanned before starting to dig for money.

She slowly pulled out a checkbook, rearranged a few loose reciepts, took her time finding a pen and very slooooowly wrote out her check, all the while leaning on the podium and huffing and puffing. When she was done paying, she took her cart and advanced a whole 6 inches while she rearranged her pocketbook, not moving enough for me to move up and pay.

GRRR!!! I just wanted to scream at her! Is there anything at all that would have been appropriate to say to get her to move faster?

It matters she's fat because that's what was making her so slow.

She could have thought ahead and gotten her checkbook out. Stupid people . . .

I agree with you !! and yes to all those who say that weight don't matter.... It does ! ! !. If your sick; it is more likely to be because you are fat !!!! if you are exhausted it is most likely to be bacause you are fat !!!! and if you are slow it is obviously because you are fat!! First of all who's fault is it that people are fat??? it is their very own fault !! so why should she be limited to not mention fatness as is with the case of race, that is different. BTW always remember god does not love the glutons, and do not contradict me.

There is nothing you could have done except for change lines when you saw her. Some people move very slowly, and some people are not thoughtful of others. If you had said something, she would have thought you were very rude, and would have had no idea what you were talking about....you are not part of her world. The best advice I can give you is not to shop at stores that have just one checkout lane, and to change lanes if you see someone who moves too slowly to suit you. On the other side of things, try to be a bit more patient. It probably won't matter if you get done 5 minutes later.

Hmmm, not that I would want to contradict anyone, because if I did that it would be because I am most likely..... yeah, you guessed it FAT. (God loves everyone).

No, there is nothing appropriate that you could say to get her to move faster. Maybe you could try being a little more tolerant of others. Would you have had the same reaction if the lady was skinny and 80 years old? I try not to go grocery shopping when I am in a big hurry or when I am crabby, because then something will annoy me.

Not much you can say to anyone with sounding rude. When I used to pay for grocery's by check, I would have it all written out so all I had to do was put in the amount once I knew the total. Today I use a debit card, they are faster.

No. You have no right to tell anyone to hurry up. Don't be stupid and go to the store when you're in a hurry.
Be careful about shooting your big mouth off, you're likely to get smacked on your asss.
There's no law that says everyone must function at your speed. She probably got the vibe from the snitty little beatch behind her that she didn't deserve to be in front of you because she was fat and she slowed down on purpose. I know when someone behind me acts like they just CANNOT wait in line, I take my sweet time. And I'm not fat, just one who hates people who think the world owes them something.

What does her being fat have to do with anything? It's an unnecessary as mentioning race, for example.

I'm usually pretty speedy, but even I can have my bad days, like exhaustion, family crisis, being sick. Cut people some slack. She could be on chemo, she could have mobility issues you are ignorant about....

PS
Like no one else is ever slow? Sounds to me like you're making assumptions. She could have mobility issues unrelated to obesity. Unless you're her physician, don't cast stones.

Please learn to be more empathetic to other's circumstances. Perhaps her weight is what was causing her to move slow, but whether it is or is not, just ignore it. Some people have their out-of-it days, just don't let it destruct your whole life...it's over.
And she probably waited until everything was scanned because she was paying attention to what was picked up before she makes the decision to purchase it.
RELAX! And be kind...you probably do things that aggravate people sometimes too, but they are forbearing and patient as you should be to

I have had similar experiences. Some persons are just in their own little world unconcerned with inconvenience to anyone else. I do not say anything as I believe it is the checker's job to ask her to move forward so the next customer may pay. However, they wont do that.

Well I am sure that she was worried about messing up your whole day. Just hope that you are never in this "fat woman's" shoes. We cannot all be as perfect as you obviously. If you were in such a hurry you should have gone to another line. Learn to have a little empathy.
