For a standard employment check. I have heard different things in the past. People always used to say that a backround check covered a 7 year period. Now I have heard that there is no time period, and that the check will go as far back as to your 18th birthday. Does this sound accurate?

It depends on the company doing the check and what their client (the requestor) ask them to do.

Most companies will do a full background check. - all the way back.

I would suggest doing one on yourself. Then when you fill in the application, you can aswer the "Have you ever ..." stuff correctly. Even if it's a piddly traffic thing, when you haven't disclosed it, it's cause for dismissal.

yes it covers any adult type arrest or infractions you have had. it is not like insurance companies where speeding tickets drop off after 3 years.

If you have a conviction it will be there for life and show up on any back ground check unless it is a case where you got it esponged from your record.

be honest on your application it will come back to bite you if don't
