theegreatseeker asks, "What would you do If you inherited $1,000,000,000 from a rich uncle you never new?"

No 'rich uncle' amongst the meandering crew whose blood is also mine--I am the only member of the family who has money. But, hey, a hundred billion is a lot of dough, and first I would keep it a secret from the public, as the far majority of the super rich do, and second I would be a proverbial anonymous donor: homeless women with children, the experimental theatre in New York, hundreds of major university scholarships, finance my favorite causes: AIDS in Africa, end of the death penalty, human and civil rights, an end to censorship, things like that. As much as that kind of money is, I wouldn't change my personal life at all--why should I, why would I? I'm not a greedy, grubby televangelist like Benny Hinn.

Question: Is this $1Billion before or after the government takes out 45% for estate tax?

First I'd probably tell absolutely nobody, or even change my name and address and phone #so only my friends could find me.

Then take several months off in solitude to search for guidance from God. Maybe Aruba would be a nice place!

Sure ly we owuld neet no more than $200k/yr to live on. Buy a few annuities to lock in that income, so the rest can be invested in people, God's Kingdom and society.

The problem is if you give money to people, especially young people, you screw them up. If you give it to poor people many simply become poor again in a few years (I can tell you stories here!)

Tough problem - one I would like to struggle with of course.

I'd set up a non-profit foundation to use the money for all my pet projects. Children, animals, environmental issues, injustice, education: so many things can be done with that much money. The foundation would then give me a salary for being the administrator, which would give me enough to live on.

My former boss was into estate planning and trusts and things, and he would know how to set it all up.

give most of it away to various charities, especially those helping native americans-invest in businesses on the reservations so the kids there would have a future to work for...sock some away so when my kids get out of college, it could help them start a business or buy a house...set up a college fund for the nephews and nieces...as for 'frivolous stuff?' a few more guitars

No because of the fact you're being taxed two times already. you will get taxed as quickly as for the quantity of the inheritance and then two times on the capital advantageous factors. in simple terms like Romney gets taxed 2 diverse cases on a similar income.

I would donate 50% to crime-prevention, police, girls & boys clubs, programs to keep ppl away from crime and to build new detention centers.

Other 50% would be spent on me & family and some friends.

Fat chance though. As far as inheritance goes though lol

Sadly as taxes would be high, without donations, I'd end up losing most of it anyway :-)

after thew government got their grubby lil hands on it. I would donate a hefty chunk to the cancer foundation/society. I would pay off my debts and buy each one of my family members a new car....then i would open a college fund for all the children in our family (my kids, neices, and nephews ) and that prolly would take care of all of the money.....sigh...it sure went fast but hey alot of people would benefit from it too!

Tithe to the church and then give to different charities, as God directs. It's important to contribute to people's physical, emotional AND spiritual needs. Yes. I'd also give to family, buy a house and a car.

With that much money it would be possible to have all the creature comforts I want for myself and my family, and still provide for worthy causes, by the simple act of hiring a competent investment advisor.
