I've got 6 cats, 2 of them were strays. Stray cats are 90% of the time cats that were abandoned. most of them just want lovbe and affection so just keep a food bowl outside and try to take a hour or 45 minutes to just sit and pet him/her or just let the cat get used to you. eventully the cat will warm up to you and will become like any other cat you got at a store. as for taking care of it... Cats are very indepent and they eat whenever they want/how much they want. show your cat to the litter box for a couple days and eventually they will get the idea of were it is and will eventuallyt start using it

hope this helps

That clumping litter feels like sand to them, and any cat will gladly poop in sand, so I'd recommend using that. An awful lot of litters have perfumes added to cover odor and cats don't like to use those litters sometimes because it stinks to them. If this is a stray that isn't familiar with the box and you think he may not recognize it as such, put a few leaves and small twigs in it on top, he'll get the idea. But really, once offered the box he should know what it's for.

Since he's meowing a lot, he's probably a dumped pet or a lost one, and wants people reassurance. Talk to him a lot, pet him, encourage him to sit with you when you watch tv, he's craving security because he likely doesn't want to be alone or outside. Even just a hand on his side helps these kinds of cats. Don't get upset or frustrated with the meowing, he's been through a lot and is just focusing on you to help him get what he needs for security so he feels safe again.

First and foremost how old is this cat? If its a kitten then its probably hungry give ti some milk from a bottle thats warm.If its not a kitten and its a mature cats some cats cry when there are in heat, when they are hungry or probably sick if u plan on keeping cat and have the money, ill advise taking him to a vet.If you dont have the money which alot of people dont observe what he does when he meows im pretty positive he will give you a clue why hes meowing if hes not neutered its probably cause hes in heat. The litter box problem they usually use it all on their own without training,at least that was the case with my 2 cats.I would show him the litter let him see where it is and he would most likeley use it if not try to catch him when hes about to urinate and put him in the cat litter when you catch him. Good luck!!!Thats real nice of you to take in a stray catylike that. There are so many without homes i hope you dont give up on him

You need to decide one thing first, are you capible of taking care of the cat? If not, them take him to the shelter so he can get a good home. If yes, then there are several things you can do.
First, the litter box is simple, keep your cat in a room that has non-absorbent floors (hardwood, tile, or lenolium). Provide him his litterbox in that room, and he'll do the rest. Cats naturaly want to bury urine and feces. It keeps prey from knowing they are around. If your cat has any area that he can pee on or bury poop in, he'll do it. ie a pile of laundry left on the floor. You can let him out of the room after he uses the litter box the first time.
Second, pet him, pet him a lot. Some cats crave attention, others do not. Petting him will help you two bond and trust each other.
Third, Get him some good food and a food/water dish. Feed him only 4 oz of food twice a day.
Fourth, a flea collar will be highly recommended, along with a regular collar with a break away connection. (If he gets caught by his collar on something, he won't choke to death).
Fith, visit your vet and check him out. This is actually the first thing you should do. He needs shots, hear worm medicine and flea drops. Feline Leukemia is a deadly illness many out door cats get that can be prevented with a once a year $7.00 shot. Keep his shots up to date every year.
Finally, buy some cat treats and toys and enjoy your cat. Oh, p.s., if you should start to find dead animals left by your door, your cat is thanking you with a gift of food. Cats are the only pets, who catch food for their owners. So, please don't do what my mother did to our cat when I was a kid and beat him with a broom. Not all cats are inclined to do this though.

You are up to a good start already. Put some cat food and water out, and put it closer to the woods so that your dad cant really notice it. One day, maybe when your dad is busy doing something or not at the house, act fast but be careful. Put on some rubber gloves, and approach one of the cats slowly. Get a cat cage and put some food and/or treats inside the cage. Try to coax the cat inside, and then close the cage. Go to the shelter and say that there was a stray by your house and that you wanted to rescue it. Also, you can try to convince your dad. Tell him that you will take good care of it and that you will get the vaccines, etc. Good luck!! =]

I once had a cat like that...It prefers leaving in the middle of the night and waking you up, right? Mine followed me home, it was already litter trained, and I think it was an Alley Cat. Mine would not stop meowing, so we let him outside and he came back the next morning, fine as ever. We let him out every night. If you think it's a problem then...I would maybe bring it to the aotion center or pound. Good Luck!

Well, the cat is meowing a lot because she wants back outside.
She will come home to you for food. If you fill a cat box with litter (not litter pellets) you shouldn't have to train her as using litter comes naturally to cats.
She won't stop moving because she's used to being outside & feels trapped.
She is an "indoor/outdoor" kitty.
