I have been battling hypertension for years and am obese, and the doctor said you have a 80 percent chance of a stroke. So did several different meds but the side affects were too bothersome, so I would switch and repeat. finally I read about the dash diet, dietary approach to stop hypertension, and I can't believe I am gaining other benefits I wasn't expecting.

I cut my calcium channel in half and take one hawthorne ginko biloba pill. I eat lots and lots of vegies and fruits and keep the sodium down as much as I can, about half what I used to eat, by eating more fruits vegies and lower salt stuff I automatically cut back on the poorer quality foods because I am not as hungry. I notice my heart doesn't do the bumpy bumpy pound pound thing anymore. I lost all craving for ice cream, cake and cookies and even chocolate ME lose my chocolate CRAVing!!! thought it could never happen. I desperatly wanted to lose all desire for ice cream as I know that it is bad to eat everyday. I couldnt seem to do it until now.

I don't go to the bathroom as much either like I used too not sure what that was,I get tested for sugar every year, and I finally have more energy not 100 percent improvment but I notice that slowly and gradually there is little signs of improvement. I suggest reading about the dash diet too on the net google it.

recommend the book how to be naturally thin by eating more by jean antenello and after this read YOU on a diet by that doctor who is always on pbs station helping them raise money. It is a good book but you must read the first otherwise you may misunderstand some of the stuff in there.

After reading YOU on a diet I understand why obesity causes hypertension, insulin resistance and all the other horrible things obese people can get. The omentum fat hanging off the stomach gets too big and pushes on all the other organs and causing blood flow to restrict in the kidneys thus they release hormones to tight up the vessels to get more blood profused, so while the kidney is getting a false reading the heart is getting more pressure and releases a hormone that makes you pee alot. and omentum absorbs insulin slowing the drop in blood sugar causing surges of insulin causing the cells to protect themselve with resistance, there is more. It releases other hormones too and puts pressure on organs squezzing them too causing problems.
